WordPress Users: What do you think of JetPack (9 posts)

  • I have worked with WordPress.com free sites as well as self-hosted WordPress sites and really do like the JetPack plugins, especially the sharing (with FB, Twitter, LinkedIn) tool to sit beneath each post. I like the Email Subscriptions tool as well (where I also use Feedburner). Any how….I haven’t had any problems using JetPack, not that I use all the gadgets it comes with, but was just wondering what all you guys thought about it…if you’ve used it as part of your plugins list.

Don’t get me wrong, I install lots of plugins like All in One SEO, Google XML SiteMaps, VaultPress/Backup Buddy, Akismet and others as well…but just wondered if there was any problems with JetPack plugins. I have installed the share tool on self-hosted blogs as well.

    Thanks for any feedback.Heather :D

  • I like it and use it – and many others :) Testing the Facebook plugin at the moment. Tested the post from Archive plugin lately. Need to finish the posts about those.

BTW I use WordPress SEO by Yoast (instead of All in One SEO).

  • I have found Jet pack to be very successful. Disregarding the Jetpack plugins what other plug ins would members recommend?

  • @ernohanninkThanks Emo.I have to check out the Yoast SEO plugin – thanks!

  • Hi Ian!I think there are a few posts about this in the forum, but there are many popular ones likeAll In One SEOSEO by YoastGoogle XML SiteMapsAkismet JetPack (is one I like for the sharing tool and other plugins) but may also like Share-a-holic as the share tool.VaultPress or Backup Buddy for backing upCommentLuvGravity Forms

Those come to mind fast….Kristi wrote a great article here about “everything” in setting up a new WordPress blog:http://kikolani.com/how-to-start-a-wordpress-blog.html

    best wishes :D

  • Just started using the jetpack plugin and love the stats. Although, the stats are a little different than the google analytics stats.
Is there something I should be doing or should they be the same.Jetpack stats are consistantly higher for pages views.

  • @Kristi-Hines But How does Jetpack compare with the list Michael gave us in session II ie. Disqus, All In One, DigDig, or am I mixing Apples and Oranges.

  • @charlottecharleehanna You’re not mixing apples & oranges.  Personally, I don’t use Jetpack – I found other solutions for most of these features long before the Jetpack became available.  Some things I use include…

    • Google Analytics for way better stats.
    • Feedburner for blog post email delivery.
    • The base comment system vs. a socially enabled one.
    • Akismet as a separate plugin.
    • Bit.ly as the URL shortener (better stats).
    • Embed code from video sites (not sure how Digg fits in there and they are going under anyway).
    • Don’t need mathmatical expressions on my posts.
    • Would prefer to not have recent tweets listed on the blog – if Twitter goes down, it will slow your site’s load time trying to pull in the tweets.
    • Spell check outside of WordPress, usually in a Word doc.
    • Lightbox plugin ( http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/lightbox-plus/ ) to create a fancier display of images in a blog post.
I’d guess that’s why people who have been blogging in WordPress (self-hosted) for a while have steered away from it – we had to find alternative solutions.  But people who have been blogging in the WordPress.com system would find it familiar, and maybe people new to blogging will enjoy the convenience of having it all in one plugin, assuming they don’t need advanced features offered by other solutions.  I hope this helps!

  • Thanks this helps tremendously.  Michael was suggesting other plugin besides jetpack.  My developer has it there so I was wondering. But I will definitely use your and Mikes suggestions.

Thanks for all the help.  (I did ask the same question on the session II question so just ignore that one.)
