Wordpress plug-ins (6 posts)

  • I saw this article and thought I would share with the group.  It is an infographic on the the top plug-ins and themes based on industry.  I thought it might be useful.http://www.inmotionhosting.com/blog/wordpress-essentials-by-industry-infographic/

  • @deereinhardt Very interesting to see what plugins people use in different industries… thanks Dee!

  • cool – Thanks Dee!

  • The All-in-One SEO pack has proven invaluable on all the WP sites I have ever used. It really helps as a quick visual reminder for keyword density – something which is important for any articles used to generate leads.

Thought it was a very concise way of breaking down what is relevant in the back of each operation. Does anyone have a particular preference regarding themes? I find myself encountering the same 3 or 4 reliable and straightforward themes.

  • @jamesbloomfield I like to design themes for each site. I get so tired of seeing the same design over and over again. It’s important to brand your company or your blog so people can connect with you and not see some cookie-cutter design.

Many people use frameworks like Genesis or Thematic, but I can not stand them! They make life very difficult for us web developers and I cringe when my clients come to me using one. I’d much prefer to use a theme that has no proprietary framework behind it and create a design that matches their branding – MUCH better solution, IMHO.

  • @kellygarrett I absolutely agree with that. I prefer custom themes purely for the reason that they allow me to make the website purr in the way I want.

However one of the main businesses I work with has a small budget and team, alongside a huge site development list. (100+ sites) With many of them being informational sites developed en masse it could slow down the production schedule a little. Totally agree that you get superior results in terms of your backend architecture and design flourishes – some of the packaged themes have maddeningly limited interfaces for non coders!
