Wordpress meta titles (3 posts)

  • When publishing a new post on Wordpress should the post title be the same as the meta title. I have been told that as long as the keyword is in both it does not matter. I am using the Platinum SEO Pack.

  • @david-easter That has been debated for quite some time. Keyword match relevance is aways high when your phrase, say “san diego pest control” is in the <title>, the <meta description> the <meta keywords> and in the <h1> title on the page. Used to be touted that that was the ideal method. Now??? Do a search for your keyword you are trying to market. The <title> and the <meta description> is showing in the Google search. How often are you seeing this “trifecta” match in actual SERPs? It’s rare.

Reason is: It was over used and now deep inside either Panda or Penguin algorithms. IMHO. Try a variety of things using the keywords in various ways.

  • @david-easter Kind of depends. The post title is going to show up on your blog and in the RSS feed for subscribers. The SEO title will show up in search engines and when people tweet the post as some Twitter and other social sharing buttons use the SEO title vs. the post title. So definitely make sure both titles have your main keywords in them and that they are both reader / social friendly.
