Wordpress home page vs blog posts (5 posts)

Topic tags: Wordpress
  • I recently relaunched my website about 10 days ago. I hired a designer who works with wordpress plus hired a seo copywriter to add new content.

I LOVE my new site however some of my blog posts are ranking a lot higher then my home page. Actually I have other pages on my website ranking a lot higher then my home.

Just wondering whether it matters to have posts that rank higher then pages of my website, do you know? Should I be concerned? And if so do you have any advise on what I need to change on my home page?

    Cheers Peta

  • Don’t worry about it. You want to use anything you can to bring people to your website, whether it’s blog posts or your home page. Chances are, if you’re producing good content, it will be your blog posts. In fact, I would be worried if my home page were outranking my blog posts, because it would mean the good stuff I’m creating was not as good as the one page that hosted it all.

If people want to see what you do, they’ll find your post and then visit your home page. If they don’t, they won’t, and they wouldn’t have been interested in your stuff anyway.

  • Peta,

Unless your home page has all of your relevant content, it’s also probably good that other specific pages are ranking higher than your home page.  That being said, if you want your home page to rank higher -  have you added meta tags as well as tagged any flash/ Java content with tags so that web crawlers/ spiders will index your page higher?

Just a thought – hope it helps!

  • I agree with Erik regarding the relative ranking of the blog posts being better than the home page.  Of course, you can also improve the hits on the home page or any other od your site’s pages by putting references/links to them in the content of those blog posts, as appropriate.

  • Your homepage title is <title>Rhythmology &raquo; Rhythmology</title>
I see no description tag.And what is the post tag “&bull;” ?

There is definitely room for SEO and cleanup in the homepage code. That said, Blogs (dynamic) have a better shot at ranking than home pages (static) … at least in the short run.
That’s my quick take on the situation, for what it’s worth. Feedback on copy: I would use “Attend a Drumming Class” as my main call to action (assuming your goal is to sign up students).
