    Wow.

  • @supereb Thanks for the heads up!

  • @supereb Yipes! I  know plenty of hacking happens to self-hosted WordPress installs, but that’s the first I’ve heard on WordPress.com. I kind of thought they were impenetrable. Thanks for sharing!

  • @supereb Ditto great article, i have experience a few of these hacking’s along the way its not fun. I also just read a nice article this morning about securing your WordPress website.
How secure is your WordPress website ?

  • I think any site can be hacked.  It all depends on the skill of the hacker more than any other factor.  The determination of the spammers out there should not be overlooked — they have money to pay hackers just like anyone else.

Wowzy! That’s pretty incredible… and what great reporting… following that trail.

Hope they find this Rick Thomas guy or whoever backdoored through him to do that. What’s so weird about it is… who in the world would click on that hacked ad to buy something from him? I would assume, because of the methods he used to deliver the ad, that there’s something nefarious in store for whoever clicked, gave him their email or actually bought something through those ads. Any respectable marketer would never go to such cloaked lengths, unless he was up to noooooo good!

  • @supereb- good info.

I was too thinking it fun [still feeling so] , when my own site was hacked , and then the 2 nd one.

Quick things to share what to do for this :-

    1. Select a good Hosting provider, I use hostgator
    2. Use backups , cpanel backups are horrible. There is 1 plugin called backup creator – just 7 $ for 5 blogs, good for backup-restoring.
    3. I had started with FREE plugin called EZPZ. But retore is not very good with that.
    4. Still better [ but expensive] is using plugin called blogvault. Runs 24×7, auto backup-restore. The test restore facility is great. Costing , may be 9 $ per month per blog, but awesome service by akshat, the owner.
