  • Hi Guys

its quite a mission as a one man business, but I strive on to grow my brand.

I have created a wordpress blog, yet am cross-eyed by the dashboard on how to set up my blog so it looks appealing as well as the reads.

Can anyone help me to improve this, or guide me on tutorials that would teach meThis is not an advertisement, it is a shout for assistance incase the moderators are watching :D  www.hashtagsa.com/blog

  • Hey Conrad, the free wordpress theme (twentyeleven) doesn’t give you many options for changing the overall look of the blog.

You can change the header graphic, backround color, column layout, etc.

If you go to your wordpress dashboard and click on “apperance” in the right hand menu, then you’ll see the “custom” tab along the bottom.

What specifically are you wanting to change?

  • A couple tips within your current layout.

    1. When you insert photos into the content, mix the alignment up a littlebit. If you would use medium size (somewhere around 300px wide) and use align right, for example, the picture will be a little smaller but will be at the right side with the text flowing around it. This makes the page look better and also reduces the scrolling.

    2. Your number points on this page are too small. You are making a list…make the list stand out. Use H3 or H4 on your list…not just bolded paragraph sized text.

    3. Make you headlines compelling and then create some sub-headlines that complement the post.

Also…21 tips! Really?  How about 3 shorter posts with 7 tips each. Find a common theme and group them – example:

Each post does not have to be a mini e-book. 500 words on average is plenty. You have at least 4 posts worth of content in that one post.

Finally, throw in some of your own content and opinion. Everything I saw was reused. Google is cracking down on that.

  • One additional thing I just noticed as I was going to close that tab your site is one. Way too many tags! Google will see that as spammy. Just like too many keywords. There must be a full page length of blue tags at the bottom of the post. I suggest 2 to maybe 5 max. I don’t know the actual formula for tags though. It really should be the one or two things you want your page to be found by. Splitting up into multiple posts will help align you with that concept.

  • thanks for taking time out to help me. will be working on my blog aggressively in the new year

    will keep you posted.
    Happy New year

  • I think you should spring for a wordpress premium theme.  Some good one’s are studiopress.com theme junkie, …there’s a bunch, you just have to search for Wordpress Premium themes.

Getting a new theme will change that blog up big time.
