  • Hello…the positive feedback about Wordpress from club members is consistent with what I’ve read to date. However, I can’t seem to be able to install it. I’ve heard that if I go with a host like HostGator it can install it for me. Is that true? Any other suggestions? Thank you. Obviously I’m a novice but ready to dive in…

  • You might want to try a different browser. I use FF and it’s fine but it doesn’t seem to like others as much. I would avoid any third party hosts if possible to minimize the troubleshooting later…

Also WP help and forums are pretty good, so you might dig around there to see if you can find a solution.

  • @jay_rombach There are a several hosting companies that will install WordPress on the domain you have hosted with them.  Hostgator and Godaddy are two I have used myself that do a pretty quick job with it.

If you are with a host that doesn’t do this, then you will have to follow the directions on WordPress.org.

You’ll probably want to read the detailed instructions if you have never done this before as it does involve creating a database, FTP, and file permission settings.  Maybe call up your hosting company’s support first to see if they offer a quick install – if they do, they should be able to point out how you can get there (or maybe initiate the install themselves).

  • Hey @jay_rombach, try this tutorial:

    http://www.eugenoprea.com/how-to-install-wordpress/

If you follow the steps, you shouldn’t have any issues. But if you have questions, please let me know.

In case your hosting has cPanel with Fantastico (HostGator has), try the automatic installation. It will take you 5 minutes.

  • Thank you everyone! I use Chrome as my browser. I’ll proceed following the suggestions and I’m sure I will work it out.

  • Wordpress also offers a ton of documentation. Also, iPower is a host that is pretty cheap and offers a Simple Scripts Wordpress install that is totally easy and automates the admin password on the install.

  • Installing Wordpress is primarily through the host not the browser…I use Chrome too..love it better than all the others and have installed several Wordpress sites using it…I do prefer GoDaddy for it the best.  I have used bluehost…which worked fine.  Host Gator  - I never could figure out wordpress with it, but that was a few years ago…Wishing you much success with it. I have become addicted to Wordpress! :)

  • I had my webhost instal Wordpress on my site as I was concerned that I might encounter errors.  All went well.  I took a course on Wordpress a few months back and the teacher recommended Bluehost as besides a reasonable for a year of domain hosting, Wordpress is a one click installation on their site.  I have also heard many others rave about Bluehost and their customer service being very good.

  • Regarding @dcoville001 reply, most of the hosts that have cPanel offer one click installations, so look for that when searching for a host.

  • I need to create a blog and also my own business website.  I already have a site (undefined as yet on Google).  Would that be where I use WordPress?

  • Definitely!
With WordPress you can create a static business website, with different pages, and also list articles at an URL like yourdomain.com/blog/

  • Thanks!

  • This is good information…it’s at the top of my list. I think the links will be valuable.

Thanks @eugenoprea, @kristi-hines and everyone else!

  • I love, love, LOVE Wordpress because it’s simple to use but can be powerful through the use of Plugins – I use it for my blog.

For my main website I use Joomla {another powerful tool but more of a learning curve for use}.

    My main issue with Wordpress plugins is “finding” a really good plug-in and then having to sift through several screens in order to find out if it’s compatible with the WP version I’m using.  {sigh}

  • @nancysmyth When looking at plugins, try to find reviews of them and try to get plugins that are on other people’s lists.

Sometimes is hard to find a plugin and you might need to try a couple until you find the perfect one, but hey, it’s for your own benefit. :)

  • Thanks @eugenoprea

  • @jay-rombach I have BlueHost as my hosting company. Like most they have a WP install within the cPanel, which is a click and it installs automatically without having to go through WordPress.org and all their steps.
Big fan of WP for easy of use, SEO, and numerous Plugins. All the best. Blair

  • @jay_rombach Hi again Jay!  Since a few people here and others have been asking about this, I wrote a post with tons of resources on starting a WordPress blog.  One section is all about installation either manually or through different hosting providers.

    Hope this helps!

  • It does Kristi. Thank you again!!

  • @jay_rombach If you go with Hostgator they have a video on how to install Wordpress through their service right here:

  • Thank you @howwhowhen
