Which Blogging Service is Better? Blogger or WordPress (9 posts)

  • Hello Fellow Members! Our company is looking to start a new blog for business purposes. Can anyone tell me what the difference between Blogger and WordPress would be? Which service would benefit a promotional products company?
    Thanks!

  • @springboardpc There is some good discussion on the topic on this thread: http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/clubs/blogging/forum/topic/wordpress-com-vs-blogger-1/. My vote is always to go with, in this order:

    • WordPress (self-hosted using software downloaded from WordPress.org
    • WordPress.com (easier to migrate to a self-hosted WordPress down the road)
    • Tumblr
    • Blogger

  • Yes, @springboardpc, I agree with @kristi-hines.  I think WordPress.org is the best way to go.  You have total control and it’s very easy to use.  Google also loves it! :)

  • @kristi-hines Thank you for your help! I tried looking for a similar thread, but will certainly check out the one you have provided!

@dianebianchi- Glad to have more assurance about WordPress.org! Thanks for your input.

  • You’re welcome @springboardpc!

  • The plus side of Blogger is that it is owned by Google so (in theory) it better connects to other Google properties such as Feeburner, Google +, Gmail, YouTube, etc.

It has improved quite a bit over the last year so it’s more comparable to WordPress although it may not have as many themes and add-ons as WordPress.

  • I have used blogger for 2 years now and I’m starting to use wordpress. Blogger is easier to use if you don’t know about html, I started using it without knowing anything :) but if you want a more professional site, definitely go for wordpress, blogger is more limited in my opinion and not so professional looking as wordpress. Since I started using it I’m more sure that I will not go back to blogger ever again.so, if it’s for your business, learn how to use wordpress and you will be fine, but it’s just for a hobby or something like that, blogger is a good option :)

  • @kathybernard- Our company has not utilized the Google+ aspect yet into our social media as we are still focusing on building the Twitter and Facebook fan base. I think I will practice using WordPress due to the good reviews about the mentioned features.

@hytare- My employer is certainly looking for a more professional outlook on a blog. Will linking the blog with other social media platforms be just as easy with WordPress?

    Thanks for the replies ladies!

  • Kristina @springboardpc

Your keywords are “company” and  “business purposes.”

In my opinion, WordPress.org (self-hosted) = professional, business oriented, fully-customizable.

Blogger = hobbyists who don’t care whether their blog looks like a million others (and I do mean a million. At least).

Yes, I’m biased and proud to be a WordPress.org fan!
