Where do I place articles online to link to my site? Where do I put the lin (12 posts)

  • Hi folks!

A little bird told me it was a good idea to start placing articles online, on other sites, in an effort to drive traffic to my own. Sounds like a marvelous idea. But where exactly should I place these articles? Are places like Squidoo helpful? Now I’m not talking about a press release, I’m talking about full-blown articles. I love to write them, and it would AWESOME to throw them out there and put them to work, little buggers.

Any suggestions on where to place? Also, how exactly does this help link back to my site, other than blatantly saying, “hey, come on over to my site and have a look,” and then placing a link. Don’t a lot of places put the poo-poo on adding a link right smack in the article?

Hi Ted (or should I call you “awesome”? :-) ,

Check out the list of article directories here:
    http://www.vretoolbar.com/articles/directories.php

Your main focus should be on creating content that your audience will find really interesting – if this is the case, they will want to click on your link and check out your site (or better still, share your article (and your link)).

It’s not good practice to go mad plastering links all through your content – for sites such as ezinearticles.com, a simple credit to the author and link at the bottom of the article can be sufficient.

I can’t stress how important it is to keep your content well written and interesting to your target audience – without this, nobody will bother checking out what you have to say on your website.

Remember also not to send your articles to all (or as many as you can) of the directories at the same time – just make sure you do it consistently (it looks more natural to the search engines this way).

There are quite a few aspects to copywriting in regards to SEO, but might be a bit heavy at this stage.

  • @ted-uram I think that  @camwilkes has pretty much covered the answer. However i wanted to add that guest blogging is perhaps a more powerful way to attract traffic. You get more individual attention to your article rather than being lost in the maze of other articles.

  • You can also get attention and links by being a guest blogger with those articles. Two good sources are http://myblogguest.com/ and http://www.bloggerlinkup.com/

  • Are article directories still relevant?

  • Wow. Actual answers? I LOVE this site!

Thank you all for your open and honest opinions. I sincerely appreciate that. As for writing great content, I think I got that covered because I am, well… awesome :)

Guest blogging? What is this… guest blogging of which you speak? Would that mean me writing a post on someone else’s blog? Well mamma, lead me to it!

Seriously though, message me if you want any awesome content, or if anyone needs any help writing content. Will be more than glad to help.

And thanks, Shari, I will check out those resources. Any additional tips will be greatly appreciated.

    Stay awesome.

    Awesome Ted

  • Big shout out to Geoffrey and Cam, too! Have a great weekend!

@ Michael – What exactly did you mean by that? Lucy… splain. :)

  • @Cam Forgot to ask: What did you mean by “share” the article?

  • @ted-uram

If your article is worthy, people may like to re-publish it on their own website – they must keep the article and any credits to the author and links in tact.
This creates another backlink for your site which is good for SEO and for general exposure.

    @michaelpingree

Article directories are still relevant but are best used in conjunction with other backlinking sources as well – it keeps things looking “natural”.

  • @camwilkes Thanks!

  • @sharijstauch BTW.,. that blogger linkup resource is awesome. Thanks!

  • You’re welcome – she’s doing a great job – I’ve received some great posts from their readers…
