What’s the Difference Between WP Super Cache & WP3 Cache? (10 posts)

  • What’s the Difference Between WP Super Cache & WP3 Cache?
I just switched WP Super Cache for WP3 Cache and now I’m scared I made a mistake. It definitely speeded up my website, with 2,000 videos on it, but I’m now getting weird messages on my Dashboard… and as I look at all the choices… uh-oh, I’m clueless as to what I’m supposed to be doing with it.
Looks like a big learning curve… did I do an uh-oh or not?

  • @atlantarobin I’ve always used WP Super Cache – some of the others can have conflicts with other plugins. You *should* be able to just deactivate the new one and go back to the other one. Maybe look through the support forums for known conflicts.

  • Robin and Kristi. With some frustration of lag on my sites, I’ve been curious about the same thing and considered doing some comparisons. I did a search and found this string which shows that it’s not an easy choice and there are a few other things that can be done in conjunction to speed things up. I wish there was a simple answer but it might be worth trying each on your site and doing a website page load time test (I may try it).

    Here’s what I found:

Thanks so much, Tom. I’ll go look at that now.

Tom, that is a great article or thread or whatever it is… It’s full of great info and I’m feeling better about what I did already. It’s very long and I guess I’m only half way through, but when I got to the part where the everyone was asking that guy to speed up their computer’s like he did… he replied by advising everyone to go check out their site on a website he suggested first… saying that people often don’t have a problem with either plugin, but that something else is causing their slow speed problems. And until they check and fix what ever that site tells you to fix, then he just won’t work with them, as he’s found people get attached to the weirdest self-defeating plugins and kinda get irrational about it, lol.

Reeeeeally interesting article. Now I’m understanding better what it is that I’m seeing in WP3 Cache, though I’m still not sure what choices to make, I’m thinking that I need to check out that other first, lol. Got a funny feeling something totally different is my problem now. We shall see…

    Thanks again!Robin Carlisle :)

I’m also thinking about using an CDN or content distribution network like Cloudflare. If either of you have any experience, let me know.

If you look at the 1st, 5th and 6th articles here you can see why I’m thinking that might be important (my wordpress tips board on Pinterest):http://pinterest.com/tomtreanor/wordpress-tips/

Good luck speeding up your site and I’m keeping my fingers crossed about mine…

  • As far as I know; W3 total cache has bigger potential for reducing the load time of your site; it’s got everything in there.

With WP Super cache you don’t have the minifying stuff but you can do that with WP Minify if you really want to. (WP minify combines javascript files to reduce load time etc).

I currently use WP Super cache, but this is only because I migrated a site with W3 total cache to a new web host and it caused a bunch of problems that couldn’t be solved by the hosting company.

That being said, most people use W3 total cache without issues and it does great for them.

  • @atlantarobin I also like WP Super Cache

@tomtreanor Great advice here both on the the blog post shared and the CDN  cloudfare.

I have to say though the  there a re a few no brainier ways of improving your blogs loading speed like:

    1. Fewer plugins, try to build what you want in the theme with out using a plugin.
    2. Optimizing images, lightweight images load faster.
    3. A better theme, I design all my WordPress websites on thesis, its lighting fast and easy customize, plus it has great SEO features.

  • I can’t stand either of those plugins. Unfortunately it costs money, but where I can I use Incapsula (business level). ( http://www.incapsula.com/&nbsp ;)
You don’t even know it’s there (unlike those caching plugins which interfere with everything) and it protects against spammers and hackers.

Tom, I came back looking for YOU… to let you know that my site is just too dang slllllllllllllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooowwwwwww to test. Just dangy, lol!

    Robin Carlisle

PS… but that’s ok, because everything bumped up against everything over there and they all got too wild and craziness ensued and I just dang had to pull everybody’s plug and call an end to it all. Whew! I’m tired just thinkin’ about the mess that little party caused. So just be forewarned: Don’t ever leave your website alone too long. Things come out and play and party hearty when you’re not lookin’… What a disaster! :)
