What Type of Content Do You Prefer? (12 posts)

Topic tags: audio, content, video
  • Text is the most common form of content on blogs, but is it really the type of content you prefer?

Alternatively, would you prefer video or audio? Or would you like a combination of the three?

Comment below with your preference and a brief explanation as to why you like this type of content most.

  • I prefer text or at least transcriptions to accompany the video or audio. Days like today when I’m on the road and mobile dependent mean that any blog posts that are video or audio only get skipped. :(

  • I like a mix of it all personally.

The only issue I have with video/audio is if the presenter is a slow talker I have to download it so I can play it at a quicker speed.

  • going at a different “type” of angle….
my audience like “how to” articles and that type of content.

I love text when it’s easily scannable. If it’s just a bunch of big blocks of text then I’m out.

Video is cool if it’s engage and under 4-5 mins. I like audio, podcasts for example, because you can multitask and still get to enjoy the content.

I totally agree. When you mix each just right it can be a thing of beauty.

  • As a blogger, I use text and videos.  I haven’t tried audios yet but might in the future.

As a blog reader, I prefer text or videos.  I seldom listen to audios unless I know the blogger well and am sure they are sharing good content no matter what way they offer it.

One of my goals for 2012 is to produce more videos that have demos so I will have to provide audio to them.  I’ve just been a little shy to try.

  • I don’t use video yet. Perhaps if I pick up one of those flip cameras or something at some point. But as of now just text. I think that video of me off my webcam would be too grainy to use.

When you are using video, make sure you are doing yourself  favor. Folks don’t need or usually want to see clutter around you or anything not office or subject related I would think (at least I don’t).

  • @glengorham I recommend the Kodak zi8 as a pocket video camera.  You can shoot in HD and it’s pretty reasonable.  Although I haven’t personally tried one, an alternative would be the Kodak Playsport (also known as the zi10).

  • Personally – I prefer text. There are often times when I am not free to turn on the video
    - on the road
    - in a quiet work environment
    - right now – my husband is with me and I don’t want to disturb his evening with my audio
… so I may just skip out of posts I wanted to read. But I recognize it has its place so I need to get over myself a little on this and record already.

  • I prefer text far and away (agree that it must be easily scannable) to video or audio but I’ve been an avid reader my whole life. I like to skim/read in combination.

If a post is video only I will 99% likely skip it unless there are bullet points underneath telling me what I can expect from the video OR unless I know the blogger really well and know that I want the content.

  • My favorite is text also. I’m with Stefanie. If a post is video, I’ll usually skip it. Will read the content below the video, though, if the blogger has provided it.
