What Type of Analytics Tool Are You Using? (12 posts)

  • The large majority of people use Google Analytics because it’s free and “easy to use”, but there are several other viable options out there.

What do you use to check analytics?

Personally, I’m considering moving to Clicky instead of Google Analytics.

  • @mutunga I love Google Analytics, but I am not sure it is easy to use. It is easy to set up and get basic analytics, but it is a rabbit hole – just keeps going deeper. I have been using it for a few years now and I am still finding stuff I can do with it! :)

And for a free products it is brilliant.

  • @mutunga I gotta agree with @russellallert on this one. In previous companies, we worked with WebTrends and Omniture, but with Google Analytics nowadays, there is so much that can be done. Most folks probably use 20-30% of its capabilities, so not sure why anyone would want to pay for an analytics tool.

  • @fredericgonzalo Thanks, Frederic! I like it when people agree with me :)

And I agree that most people only use about 20% of GA’s capabilities.

  • @russellallert I was totally being sarcastic with the easy to use part :-)

  • @mutunga Damn, normally I can pick sarcasm online. #Fail. :)

  • @russellallert You’re welcome (to disagree as well)! :-)

  • @mutunga I’m using Google Analytics.  I think I tried Clicky with the WordPress plugin, but felt it was slowing my site down, so I took it off.  That was awhile ago, so it may have gotten better, or maybe my site was just coincidentally having other issues.  I’m not sure I really need more than GA provides though – any more analytics than that and I might never actually write a blog post again.

@russellallert and @fredericgonzalo also have a great point about GA – there’s so much you can do if you get into goals, funnels, advanced segments, filters, etc. Most people just don’t though, and they are missing out.

  • I’ve always used Google Analytics. Mainly because it’s free and gives me the information I need, or at least what I think I need.

  • I like GA. I’ve started using Clicky and like the real time info.you get. But, I agree with the consensus – unfortunately you will only have the time to use one or the other.

  • I’m diggin’ SlimStat it’s pretty Awesome!

  • @mutunga you can use both and see which one provides you more insights.
