What do you think of Alexa traffic ranking tool for blogs? (6 posts)

  • I’ve heard different views about Alexa traffic ranking system. Some folks think it’s a complete waste of time, and others think that it’s a relevant tool for blogs. What are your thoughts? Yay or nay?

  • So far from what I see when I sign up for reviews they ask for the Alexa score, not always but more often than not.

I think they use it more as a metric for advertising. It gauges your traffic and then ranks it against all the other sites out there.

  • I think it’s horrible, but PR people still want to know it occasionally. I was down to about 42,000 at one point and only had about 6000 pageviews a month average, but then Alexa rolled out their pro version and I didn’t sign up for it. Now I have way more visitors in any given day than I did back then (up to about 23000 pageviews a month), but I’m up to 69,000 in Alexa. I don’t know if they’re favoring people who use the pro version, or if the majority of my visitors just don’t have the Alexa toolbar installed, but it’s not really an accurate tool of how popular you are in my opinion. • @patricia-redsicker I just use it to compare one site against another to see which one gets more traffic in general.  I don’t necessarily trust the numbers, but it’s good to look at trends.

  • Thanks everyone! It’s good to know :)
