What do you hope to accomplish with your blog? (11 posts)

  • What’s the purpose of your blog and is it living up to what you hoped it would be? The purpose of my blog is to help job seekers, but if I’d thought it through, I would have tried to make it lead-generating as well.

  • My blog languished for much of the last couple of years, only updated once per month or so because I was so busy with my job. However, I’ve decided it’s time to dust it off and use it as a place to establish my expertise and sell my books. It’s meant to be a place to discuss online community development and community management as well as social media and blogging. Now that I’m back to being an independent contractor, I’d also like to revamp it in order to drive business.

  • @kathybernard Mine was just to share information to start with. Then I wanted to monetize it with affiliate links to products I use. After that, I wanted it to generate leads for my freelance writing business. So far, it’s done the job. :)

@deborahng Nice to see you here! :)

  • Nice to be seen, @Kristi Hines.

  • Pure SEO which is why we went to an embedded blog on our website

  • @kristi-hines Kristi, I think your blog has evolved the way mine has. I started out just providing information, but have steadily worked to use it to drive business. It’s slowly starting to work.

@deborahng Deb, I know what you mean about the challenges of trying to produce blog posts while also trying to make a living. It’s a constant struggle.

  • @kristi-hines

Ditto what Kristi said, lol. But today… just dangy… I’m hoping I don’t go broke pursuing those simple goals, lol.

    Tomorrow… is another day… :)

  • I started my blog to be a voice in a realm where few people are listening—but need to! I’ve been at it for two years and have grown a steady audience and unexpected authority and reach. I feel like I’m just beginning to understand its potential and have discovered that there is a need.

Are the people I want to reach listening? Eventually, they will have to!

  • Establishing ourselves as the credible experts in our field has brought new customers, new speaking opportunities and soon a whole new platform. It’s what keeps the website “moving” :)

  • I started my blog without really thinking of who my audience is, but quickly figured out — by listening to these podcasts! — what the point of it is.  My business is to help homeless animals, but I’m really thinking about how social media has changed the landscape for animal shelters and rescues.  That’s our niche, I think — but we make some sweet stuffed animals :0)  Here’s the blog; it’s brand-new.

I’ve found this site and especially the podcasts to be enormously helpful so far.

  • Two years ago, I started my blog to encourage, support and educate people.  Also I figured learning new technology would help keep my skills relevant since I was job searching.  Blog growth has been slow but steady. Now I am working on revamping it and hope to have it unveiled in July or August. It has been tough keeping up with the blog since returning to work full time this past January.  My brain is fried most days with all the systems, policies and procedures I need to learn that I am unable to write. Reduced publication to once a week for an original article and uplifting quotes on weekends. It has still continues to grow and I have heard from people how my articles have made a difference.
