what blog platform to use? (11 posts)

  • Our company is new to blogging and has not determined which platform to use for its blog.    What does everyone think is the most efficient, easiest blog to integrate into the other social media platforms?  Wordpress, Google, others????

We’d like to to email the blog weekly, as well as post it to FB.

    Thanks for sharing any tips!

  • Many that I know here in my region use WordPress, as do I. I also pay a small fee per month for Akismet thatis a spam catcher which works wonderfully well.  I also have a tool that I can check and it send my blog posts to Linked,  Twitter and FB..

Two months ago there was a 2 day WordPress meetup/program with excellent user/speakers for the beginner to the pro. I went the beginer day and learned so much. I was amazed at all that can be done in WordPress.

  • You will hear this a lot .. because it is true .. a Wordpress self hosted blog is your best option for SEO, total control and Social Media plus a host of other things!

It becomes your piece of virtual Real Esate, nothing else compares to it.

    Hope that helps!

  • thanks for the excellent feedback.

I hear good things about Tumblr; does anyone have experience with this?  Thanks!

  • Of course I’m going to second what others have said here — go with a self-hosted blog on Wordpress!  It really is the very best option for so many reasons. It’s the most robust platform with the most functionality and user options, there are tons of design options and opportunities for customization, great SEO benefits, and most importantly, as Diane mentioned above, it’s your piece of online real estate, that you own and control.

That said, I’ve seen some really awesome ways people are using Tumblr, and my impression is that it’s a wee bit more user friendly for the absolute beginner than a self-hosted blog on Wordpress.org.  If you Google, “Wordpress versus Tumblr,” you’ll find lots of articles on this very topic, and I think alot depends on your specific needs for your blog, and what niche you’re blogging in.

    Good luck!

  • @hendione I’m going to kick the “self-hosted WordPress” dead horse once more. I can also say I’m not a fan of Tumblr for business blogging, unless your business somehow appeals directly to Generation Y, and they are your only customer base.

Tumblr is a great platform, but it’s not built for long posts and lots of information. It’s great for short updates, photos, short videos, etc. But if you want a serious blog, definitely don’t do Tumblr.

  • Ok, WordPress it is!  Thanks so much everyone!

  • @hendione You might want to check out the previous discussion on platforms here too!

But for the most part, we all recommend WordPress.  :)

  • Tumblr is good in the right situation but if your just starting out, yep, I’m with the Wordpress Crowd.

Here’s something I wrote for SMEX on Tumblr a while back:

    Hope it helps.

  • @hendione here’s my opinion … WordPress, WordPress, WordPress, WordPress, WordPress

By far the very best blog/website platform out there. 25% of all of the new websites built are built on WordPress! It’s very SEO friendly and easy to use. You can’t get a better platform!

  • WordPress, WordPress…. Because its best blogging platform ever. You get so many functionality, and easy to use-understand UI that makes blogging more easier…

So my vote goes to WordPress.. :)
