What are your three favorite WP plugins and why? (13 posts)

  • You are stranded on a deserted island and you can only have three Wordpress plugins, what would they be?

Please just list three. And tell us why?

  • @jasonwiser Ok, here I go:

    1. Akismet – because it is the best and most reliable source for fighting spam and keeping the good stuff
    2. BackupBuddy – because it is a flawless help tool to backup and restore your site -database included-, holding a broad variety of possibilities to customize and automatize your routines and to restore and repair your site (nearly as perfect as the Akeeba Joomla pack). Saved me more than once.
    3. Print Friendly and PDF – because optimizing the print styles for your site can be a mess once new site features break everything apart. Print Friendly takes care of providing the reader with a clean version of your site and even gives the frontend user the ability to customize the output.
    Cheers, Thomas

  • @jasonwiser

    1. Wordpress SEO – Hands down the best SEO plugin period.
    2. Smushit- Automatically, optimizes your images.
    3. Wordpress-Editorial-Calendar- This is a necessity if you are managing content saves hours of work.
    4. Broken Link Checker- Tracking down broken links is a chore that I hate (time waster). This plugin saves hours of work keeping your site working smoothly.
Sorry Jason just had to add an extra one :)

  • And if you just search back through the threads you will see a number of posts on this subject that might give you more ideas!

I tried doing a search but for some reason it isn’t working right now (it is not searching the forums, I will bug this)..

  • @glengorham @jasonwiser Probably the best thread to look at would be this one.

And anything tagged with Plugins.  :)

  • @kristi-hines I have to say the search is not real easy on SME. And where are the tags?
And yes, thanks for the link, but as for the “best” I disagree. @projsocial ignores the importance of the deserted island. :)

  • Hi @Jason-Wiser, care to illuminate as to what is the “deserted island”?  I think all I did was start a blog post asking people for their favorite WordPress plugins.

  • @jasonwiser The most popular topic tags are in the Tags & Topics sticky post on the Blogging forum. :)

And I just meant that was the best thread to look at as the most members added their opinions there.  Not necessarily that I agreed with everyone’s favorite choices.  :)

  • @kristi-hines I’m with you… I don’t agree with all of them either.  But it was fun to see what people liked, and to learn about some new great plugins at the same time!

  • OK to clear the air, the “deserted island” reference was just a joke. @projsocial @kristi-hines

  • Getting back on track… :-)

    1. Organize Series - fantastic for setting up series of posts. Has a free option but the paid plugin along with some of its tag-alongs are work savers.
    2. W3 Total Cache – saves me money on hosting costs and keeps my performance freak side very very happy. Plays well with Cloudflare (Free version)
    3. XCloner – where would we be without proper backups?
Widget Logic and Custom Widget Area are also great but I’ll leave them for another time.

    1. Wordpress SEO - I’m with @ptwylie on this one
    2. WP e-Commerce
    3. Tweet old posts
( oh but there are so many more… Thank me Later, Reply Me, Widget Logic )

  • Will check a few of these out. I also like Share and Follow for the sidebar (especially helps clients get direct to their own SM sites, plus learn more about the others out there).
