What are Your Favorite Sources of Traffic? (13 posts)

  • Before I thought that traffic was universal (once you find how to get it, it will work for every blog that you make).

Since I started my second blog I have started to notice it’s now in that way.
Best traffic sources depends on many things.

I think that a discussion about this may be very constructive.

So, what is bringing you the most of your traffic?

For my first blog (a B2C about personal improvement in Italy) YouTube and Facebook are working great. Other sources including guest posting don’t perform well.

For my second blog (Blog Growth, a B2B about internet marketing) SlideShare is awesome and YouTube is doing good. Also there are many other minor sources.

  • @maurodand In my opinion, nothing compete with search engine traffic.

  • @hesham I completely agree with you, search engine traffic is the best.
To get a huge traffic from search engine is the ultimate traffic goal for every blog.

But to get a significant amount of it, you have to grow your blog a lot.
I’d like to speak better about other sources of traffic that you can get even in a more initial stage for your blog.

  • @maurodand as  @hesham organic is definitely key. But i would like to add that traffic form a relevant source is the best. So if the website is referring traffic to your website is the right target market then you will have higher conversions. Its more about credible traffic than volume.

For example if you had an excellent, relevant video that was helpful to the viewer on Youtube.com which visitors watched then went to your website. The chances are the traffic from this video would be great. Why?

    1. Videos drive a point home stronger than image or text
    2. Videos are great pre-qualifer for attracting the right clients
    Just an example… :)

  • @maurodand you’ve got a good point here.

Hey @geoffrey-gordon Videos are great, but (if they are not subscribers) how people will find them?

I am not sure, but personally; I don’t view every video on YouTube, I usually search for what I want to view (maybe this is only me). But this still proof the importance of being on YouTube :)

I have a guest post made by one of my friends that provides 50 traffic resources that may get your interest as it has a punch of useful data:

    http://www.famousbloggers.net/50-traffic-sources.html

    I hope this is useful.

  • @geoffrey-gordon I think it in the same way: traffic from YouTube (and video) is high quality traffic.
The traffic I get from YouTube is the one with the smalles bounce rate.
But I noticed that YouTube perform a much better for B2C than for B2B.

I would add that videos help to build relationships with people who watch them.

@hesham being on YouTube it’s certainly very important.

The post was interesting. I didn’t know that eBay could be a source of traffic!

  • Posting a teaser about your blog post on several relevant LinkedIn groups can really generate a lot of traffic. Just be sure to mention in the teaser copy why the information found on your blog post will be useful to them.

  • @kathybernard Of course, LinkedIn could be a great way to drive traffic.

What do you think about this: if you could focus only on one source, would you prefer LinkedIn or Facebook to drive quality traffic?

  • search engine and return visitors

  • Mauro, You asked which medium do people prefer — LinkedIn or Facebook for driving quality traffic … if you are promoting a business product or service, I definitely prefer LinkedIn. I probably get at least 20 times more business from LinkedIn than I do from Facebook. It’s just a more business-minded site and it is much easier to find people who want/need your service on LinkedIn.

  • Back in July I polled our fans to find out exactly where people first found out about my website (www.muscogeemoms.com). The results were both revealing and frustrating…
31% Friend referral/ word of mouth
    26% Facebook
    19% Print ad
    14% Internet Search
    10% Other

  • @cleelake Charlotte I think your stats show some interesting things.

Although your organic traffic is not very big, you have a consistent offline impact.
The word of mouth shows that your business is doing pretty good and this is great!
You should be proud of this :)

  • @maurodand Thanks, Mauro. From the beginning we have relied heavily on the power of word of mouth. However, I’m interested growing our organic traffic and would love to talk offline with an expert about our specific needs. Our target audience consists pf moms with young children (infants to age 14), but our demographics show that our actual audience is evenly spread across age, gender, and social/economic background. Like everyone else my goals are to increase our traffic and number of repeat visitors. So far, our favorite source of traffic has been Facebook.
