Web app to optimize your blog posts for SEO (16 posts)

Topic tags: blogging, SEO, tools
  • I’ve been using this blog optimization app for a while now and I highly recommend it to optimize your blog posts for search engines.

You choose relative topics to what you write about and it searches the web for keywords relevant to the topic.
Then you paste your posts into their app and it evaluates and fine tunes in real time as you go to make the post perform the very best it can.

The app is still in beta, but if you are a new blogger or one who really wants to bone up on SEO, check it out. (this is not an affiliate link) http://www.inboundwriter.com/

  • thanks Janet.

    i might check it out.

SEO and pure bloggers have always been butting heads and i do see the value in a well SEOed post.

i do however see the side where it almost dictates that you write to guidelines, which some people hate.

    :)

  • Very cool. Thanks Janet!

  • Hi agree with Dexter (@dextereugenio) that there’s a difference of opinion about how to SEO a post. That said, thanks for the link Janet @jfouts

I’ve heard HubSpot has a good tool as well.

For me, I write the post because I want it to be as engaging as possible, to have a true voice behind it. But then I do keyword research on the phrases I’ve used to see if some need to be changed or other phrases added. In that way I can maintain the core voice while still getting the SEO benefit.

  • @jfouts Thanks for sharing Janet!  I use the same approach as  @boxcarmarketing – I’ll write the post first for my readers, then see what can be optimized for keywords after the content is finished.  Plus I also weigh the difference between a good SEO optimized title vs. a title that is good for social media spread.

  • Thanks Janet, I’m going to check it out and see how it goes. THe site had an announcement that it was now available on Wordpress as a plug in so that’s kinda cool. Take good care from downunder.

  • @dextereugenio That’s one of the things I like about this one. They make suggestions that actually make the post rank better without affecting the flow of writing. You make the decisions not some bot.

  • Always a good idea Kristi and a good point. Titles that get re-tweeted and re-shared are not always the ones with the best SEO! @kristi-hines

  • @liannelewis oooooh, I love the idea of a Wordpress plugin and I didn’t know that. Thanks ( :

  • @boxcarmarketing Yep, I’m a Hubspot partner and I like their tool, but for those who aren’t in Hubspot and want to fine tune it’s a great option. I also highly recommend Scribe as a Wordpress plugin, here’s my review on that one: http://janetfouts.com/scribe-seo/Of course, none of these replace good writing, but they can help fine-tune.

  • @jfouts I watched your video Janet. Thanks for posting. I think I’ll stick with my current process but it’s always good to look under the hood of another tool. Thanks.

  • Thanks for telling us about this, @jfouts.  I just signed up to try it out.

Like some of the other commenters, I’ve been torn between writing good, engaging material, and writing with SEO in mind.

Hopefully there’s a way to integrate both.

    Thanks, again.

  • @boxcarmarketing Content and true voice should always come first, and I always write outside of the editor, but once it’s written I can objectively decide if I need to tune in some SEO or not. Going through these kinds of editors teaches you a lot about good DEO techniques too. As  @swrightboucher mentioned, hopefully there is a way to do both.

  • Hi @jfouts I’d planned to write a blog this morning so thought I’d have a look at the link you posted.  Seems very useful but think if I was using it again I’d write the blog outside of InboundWriterand then import as I was too easily distracted by all the scores and had to concentrate to write something for a reader and not just for SEO.

Very useful link – thanks for sharing!

  • Yes  @hazelmclellan That’s what I do. I don’t want the tool to write the post, but I paste it in, tweak if I agree with it and then finish the post. You should let us know when you post your new post to your blog!Cheers,J

  • Thanks @jfouts – will do . I’ve now got to go and find a couple of images which seems to take me ages as I’m always sure there is another /better image on the next page
