Tumblr (9 posts)

  • I have a question, tumblr as microblogging site, quite simple to use should have its own strategy, but which one is the best way to get more followers and expecially qualified? Thanks

  • @dariofurente Tumblr is a great system to use, but if you are looking for followers for business purposes, I would go with WordPress instead.  Then you can have links to where you really want your followers to be: email list, social network, RSS, etc.  You can see more pros / cons in the Blogging Platforms discussion over at http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/clubs/blogging/forum/topic/blogging-platforms/

  • @dariofurente @kristi-hines Though for some industries and niches, Tumblr is where your audience is hanging out.  If they’re there, you should probably be there too.

I love using Tumblr (and pinterest.com) to get ideas for graphic design, marketing and visual communication.  Also, if you are involved with visual media, wedding planning, DIY, and/or ‘mommy-bloggers’, Tumblr could be a valuable source of inspiration for blog posts.

  • @dariofurente I’ve found Tumblr to be a tough nut to crack.  I’m in the retail business and haven’t seen much use when I post to Tumblr.  But I agree with @caseyvaliant , younger audiences are there.  If you feel like getting creative, making your own meme and poking fun at something in your industry could help connect with the audience on Tumblr.

Otherwise, I mostly use it for link-building.

  • Thanks for you advices guys, I find Tumblr quite interesting to undertand what’s going on in design, fashion, new trends and art, that’s why I have one.
I love photography, so probably I should think about WordPress in case I start my own business. Tumblr isn’t really adapt in this but could be a good linkbuilding point, a window, that’s why I was trying a first step there to get as much followers I can, it is so easy to use, not that much customizable, but that’s not the main problem I guess, and no I don’t think tumblr main target is youngers or teenagers.

I love tumblr! I am an avid user.  As a recent college grad and a tutor who has worked with many high school students, I can assure you that tumblr is very popular from kids as young as 14 to adults.  For must retailers and businesses, I would say that tumblr is not for them.  However, anything that is image heavy–such as photography, modeling, videos– or interesting — comic strips, short anecdotes, and so on– have a place on  tumblr.  I have seen many photographers, models, poets, writers, and clothing companies who have grown their fan base exponentially because of tumblr.  If you have something interesting to show, then tumblr is an excellent place.
I dont think its a good place for regular businesses. Its a great place to showcase something.  If you are photographer, this will be a great place to start, but it would be wise to also start a wordpress.  Wordpress has many amazing themes that cater to photographers.

  • Thanks for your advices, at the end I decided to keep my tumblr but also having a facebook page and a proper website/portfolio which is now going to be an e-commerce web.

I am trying hardly to integrate all of them but I will try my best, especially now that FB pages are changing and all the adv. story will be brand new.   My sites: www.dariofurente.com http://www.newnormalitynow.tumblr.comwww.facebook.com/DarioFurentePhotography

please feel free to have a look.

  • I’ve read all the comments and new to Tumblr… I’m wondering what the advantage is over Pinterest (imagery exposure) or Wordpress for websites…
    Thanks…

  • @susannewman –

I don’t know if there’s any advantage over it … but it’s a little like an extremely simple version of WordPress … In fact I would say it complements a Pinterest account nicely! It’s like having you’re own blog, that you can post text/video/photos to but you can also pin those photos to your facebook/twitter/pinterset account for more exposure.
