Topics For blogging (11 posts)

  • Hi there, I have a online lingerie boutique and started blogging to drive traffic and improve my rankings on Google.  Unsurprisingly the focus for the blog was lingerie however I have been having a rethink recently as I am going to be relaunching the website.
My target customers aren’t necessarily as enamoured with the topic of lingerie as I am.  They maybe more interested in blog posts about beauty and fashion.  My dilemma is do I write blog posts for the customers of my website and broaden out the topics or do I stick with posts on lingerie focusing on getting inbound links and improving my SEO rankings?  Any feedback would be appreciated.

  • I think you gave yourself a homework assignment when you said “they may be more interested….”  You don’t want to waste time guessing what they’d find interesting to read.  ASK THEM!  Solicit comments/suggestions on your blog or somewhere on your website.  Maybe even offer an incentive to get feedback:  everyone who responds will be entered into a drawing (15% off, a free whatever…you get the idea).

I bet you’ll be able to satisfy both your goals of satisfying customers AND improving SEO rankings.

  • @marketmy I would suggest thinking more about the topics your target customer would be interested in. Think about who is buying the lingerie. Women looking to make themselves feel good, women looking to impress their significant others, significant others looking for a gift for the lady in their life, etc. Now think about what they would want to read. Gift ideas for holidays or special occasions, how to boost your mood with a new outfit, romantic date night ideas… the topics are endless!

  • Hi Katherine, “Lucky!” as my kids would say when their friends have something they don’t. You have a great subject full of seductive images… Drop a picture a day onto Facebook, with a a blog post or two each week… A topic that most adults have interest in, especially when in their social mood. Compare that to those if us slogging away, trying to make business purchases interesting in the social world. But I totally agree with the post above – ask your customers and/or measure which types of posts get the most feedback.

  • Thanks for the suggestions, appreciate you taking the time to get back to me.

  • How about this… Ask your customers and readers what they’d like to read about.

Definitely do not make your blog a non-stop ad medium. This is how you chase the readers away. Plug into their interests. I suppose I should keep this PG-rated, but I would think a logical topic to take on for lingerie buyers would be romance.

When January/February rolls around, I’d explore every Valentine’s Day subject you can find. Sounds easy and fun. Feel free to hit me up for a contribution ;-)

Hi Katherine, you will improve your SEO rankings when you have more interaction on your website which in turn will boost your SEO. And the way to generate reaction from the audience is to cater to their needs. Be the kind of information source they want you to be.

I like Kristi’s ( @kristi-hines ) ideas of the topics. In addition to that, you may think about writing around the keywords to maximize the SEO. Find out from the analytics, which keywords currently lead to your website / blog and which keywords would YOU like to see leading people to your website. Then plan your posts to include the ideas relevant to the keywords.

Lingerie is a narrow topic to maintain recurring interest from all your audience. Instead focus on say, style / fashion and how that translates into your product. e.g. In a post titled, “Top 10 trends in fashion for Summer 2012″ you can include links to certain lingerie specific posts that reflect the runway designs transferred into lingerie designs.

  • Hi +manasikakade

You  are thinking along the same lines as I am which makes me feel much better.  Although lingerie is a nice topic when you have been blogging about it for 2 years you start to run out of things to say.  I will definitely start on broadening the topics to try and appeal more to my customers.

Thanks everyone for the advice on this :o )

  • @marketmy You can also put a survey on your blog, featured post, to get feedback from your following as well.  I use http://www.surveymonkey.com (free).

    Heather :D

  • To Put a survey on the blog as suggested by Header is good but I quite Agreed with Manasi’s point of view to narrow the topic to fashion with The following title ”top 10 trends in fashion for summer 2012.
