Topic Ideas for a Fraternity and Sorority Clothing Store Blog (10 posts)

  • I’m in charge of a blog at a fraternity and sorority custom clothing store. Sometimes I write about products our company offers, but other times I write more opinion based pieces. Does anyone have any ideas about what college aged students are interested in? So far I’ve written about conversation starters for recruitment, recruitment theme ideas, and a rant about that dreaded hand stamp you get when you go out and then still have when you go to class 2 days later. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  • @mgiuseffi Maybe take a look at College Fashion (http://www.collegefashion.net/). It’s supposed to be a fashion blog for students by students.  This (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/) is also supposed to be the best forum for college-related discussion online.

  • @mgiuseffi You might also want to set up some Google Alerts and/or Stream follows in Hootsuite / tweetdeck for possible topics/hashtags and/or specific tweeters.

With a quick search I found @CollegeFashion on Twitter.

  • @mgiuseffi Great direction from  @kristi-hines and  @readingtub…I would also recommend sharing information about preparing for life after college. Having a daughter who has graduated and one currently attending, I still get the clear signal that the focus of academia is about the pressure to get the highest GPA. Being an HR professional, I believe the last semester in college should be focused on preparing the student for what comes next. Good luck.

  • I agree with @kristi-hines . Since, most of my experience has been in the Garment Industry, I would recommend a focus on incorporating your clothing pieces into whatever the current trend may me. Clothing sells more effectively when people don’t have to figure out how to wear it. I would also suggest focusing on whatever assistance the Fraternity and Sorority  are giving to assist their members prepare for life after College. If they are involved in any Philanthropy, you can share that and suggest that members continue the tradition of giving back after they leave school. If I can be of any assistance with suggestions for the clothing let me know. I did display work, fashion styling for 13 years and I have 30+ years experience with “product-based” business Dyane :D

  • @mgiuseffi I would say  that your customers will parallel their cohorts. You need to understand where they are and where they are going. They will want to remember their collegiate days fondly, but need to fit their next life

  • Perhaps a “dress for the job you want” article that expands to “how to interview for the job you want.” I may be old fashioned but a good dose of etiquette for the business world and social world needs to be emphasized. (cell phone manners, dining manners, thank you notes….)  @mgiuseffi

  • But keep in mind that old alumni still like to buy stuff with sorority/fraternity logos on it. You might want to track down an old alumni and interview them.

I know my old high school sorority has a HUGE group that has reunited on Facebook and often share links to such sites.

Other sorority/fraternities have regular travel-reunions, scheduling travel together every year, just like the house parties we had when younger. Tips on logo-wear or logo-travel-bags for club trips might do well, whether for current members or alumni.

  • @mgiuseffi every city in the US has a university in our near. Go to Hofstra University and ask the kids what they are interested in. Actually walk up to people and ask.

  • Piggy-backing on what @atlantarobin said, when you talk to former alums, ask if they have pictures of their old sorority/fraternity gear — or even the gear itself so you can do a fun post paralleling ‘vintage’ vs. new clothing offerings.
