Tip for Making WP Themes 2010 and 2011 Less Recognizable (3 posts)

  • I have a tip to share that works with both Theme 2010 and 2011. That black bar at across the header image trademarks the theme so distinctively, which I think makes the thousands of people using these themes identifiable with the theme, detracting from their personal image. I’ve been creating headers that use black at the bottom, incorporating the black bar into the header design and making it kind of disappear as a bar. Now people who go to these sites don’t think 2011 or 2010 as soon as they open the site. Black works fine on 2010. For 2011 I had to screen to 95% black before the bar fused into my header art. • Good idea. :)

  • @judithgotwald Great idea!  I usually try to find that one identifying element with a theme (for Thesis, it’s the menu bar) and customize that.  My blog uses Thesis, and  most people don’t recognize it right away simply because I removed the traditional Thesis menu and replaced it with a different design.
