The final word plugin (4 posts)

  • Hi all!

I just came across a plugin that is being used in the company I work for called the final word. What this plugin does is generate two articles, one for the web user and one for the search engine bots. Surely this should be dubbed black hat? I am not a 100% sure if this could be considered cloaking?

Please let me know if using a tool like this is blackhat… thanks

  • When you make the content for the reader different from that for the search engines it has consequences – like being removed from Google

    Cloacking http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66355
“Cloaking refers to the practice of presenting different content or URLs to users and search engines. Serving up different results based on user-agent may cause your site to be perceived as deceptive and removed from the Google index.”

  • @gusvdw45 I think you might be better off optimizing your content written for people for search engines. It doesn’t have to mess it up for your readers – just make sure you have your main keyword phrase in your title, meta description, an image ALT tag, and a <h2> header within your content plus mention it in the first paragraph and last and you’re good to go. Those kinds of updates do not make the content bad for readers at all and help with search rankings.

  • Thank you for the reply!

I wasn’t sure RE the use of the tool and haven’t used it. I just noticed my boss has been adding it a lot of the blogs that we manage. But now that I know that it is a no no I will be removing it.

    Thanks again!
