Subdomain/Freedomain Sucks, Invest 10 Bucks! (2 posts)

  • Hi all. When I started my blog 5 years back, I started it on a free blogspot domain. Many blogs inspired me but 2 of the cool blogs that I liked were also hosted on a sub domain.

One was: EarnMoneyFromBlog1.blogspot.com Other was: Woork.blogspot.com

I liked both of them but I realized soon that it’s a wise decision to have your own domain.

I bought own domain as soon as I got the money.

Few years later woork moved into self hosted site with woorkup.comEarnMoneyFromBlog1 was deleted by blogspot.

Now the lesson here is, all of your hardwork you have put into a sub domain can be lost like this.

Woork had to build the links again to the new address. EarnMoneyFromBlog1 was lost so he started a new blog.

Take my suggestion, buy a domain name. You can buy one for as low as $10 and host it on blogger or wordpress.com account.

  • @xtamal I definitely agree with that – having your own domain is way more valuable and professional than having yourname.otherdomain.com.  Plus it is more portable if you switch platforms.
