    • @moinshaikh Thanks for the list :) Moin I just ran across this plugin that I intend to install this morning on my personal blog. With all the interest in Pinterest images are now hugely important better still this plugin  will save me countless hours searching for that image I need for a post.
      PhotoDropper

    • @ptwylie hmm, really worth adding to the list. According to a recent report, pinterest is one of the fastest growing website in the world and i would not surprise if it is started using as top tool for bringing huge traffic to website. It is next gen stumbleuppon, what do’ya say?

    • @moinshaikh yup, fully agree I have noticed an uptake of referral traffic from Pinterest interestingly, area businesses are beginning to use this medium to spark interest to their brick and mortar stores. I see this because of the requests I’m receiving.
It could well be the next-gen stumbleupon as it sure is riding high on popularity. However, it is modeled differently what I think it does well for businesses is that it taps into the connected consumers interests and gives them the ability to share their interests/experiences with ease. Making it difficult for marketers to ignore.

    • Thanks, @moinshaikh.  This is a great list.

    • @dianebianchi my plessure!

      1. digg digg – must have
      2. Hello Bar – only for high traffic sites, has not very effective for me or my clients
      3. WP – Touch – Must have. Until you can get around to creating a mobile version, this is the very best “next best” option.
      4. Why Digg Digg, and Sexy Bookmarks on the same list? Digg Digg wins hands down. You can choose where and how the buttons are placed
      5. Total Cache –  if you have enough content to warrant this. Otherwise on low traffic sites this seems bulky to me.
      6. The Slide – I need to check it out
      7. Twitter follow / Fb like – again, why on the same list as Digg Digg?
      8. All in One is second to WordPress SEO by Yoast which is the undisputed champion of WP SEO plugins. I mean, common, this is Joost DeValk were talking about here!
      9. Social Metrics – I will definitely check this out!
      10. Social Media Widget – also worth a look.
My new favorite is Contact form 7 DB Extensions. This thing is the most powerful WP -plug in of all time! It is straight from the USS Enterprise!

    • @jasonwiser, I agree with you about Wordpress SEO by Yoast. It replaced several of my plugins. The less plugins, the better for security.

I didn’t see Commentluv on here. I absolutely love Commentluv (no pun intended). It really encourages people to comment and it’s great to see what other commenters have been writing about since it shows their latest post at the bottom of their comment.

I also use the nRelate plugin, which shows ‘related posts’ with a little image for each. Far more compelling than the straight list you get with other plugins.

    • @jasonwiser really good work, appreciate it! @srsheldon agree with you on avoiding unnecessary plugins. I haven’t use commentluv but have heard lot about it. Can you give a link to it here?

    • I use the Commentluv Premium plugin, which is even better. Andy Bailey does a great job maintaining it. Here’s the link:

      http://www.commentluv.com/

    • Oh My Gosh! I completely missed this – I posted a link to the article in a new thread. Yikes!
@Moin Shaikh - I do not see a link to his article here – I did post that in my thread.
Sorry about the duplicate folks! The other thread is here if you would like a link to the original article. Sheesh.

    • @supereb Thank you very much!

    • That’s a great list! And some great feedback on them.

Can anyone tell me what this fly out tab is called that comes out in the lower right? It did it for me when I got to this website earlier this evening and I know I’ve been seeing it more and more lately. I’d like to look into it.

      Thanks!

      Heather

    • @clusterwebdesign can you broaden your question? Can you post a link to that page where that flying out tab appears in the lower right corner? I guess you are talking about either Wibiya Toolbar (an up arrow in the right corner in the bottom of the page) or The Slide bar that makes a related post tab appears when you scroll down to any post page. Am i right? Awaiting your link to page. Thanks,

    • @Moin Shaikh  – You are exactly right, it is the Wibiya Toolbar.
@Heather Murray - It’s the (light green in this case) small tool bar at the bottom of your screen.

    • In case some of you are interested, here is another great article on top wordpress plugins from SitePoint

    • @supereb my pleasure! Wibiya toolbar is used for more than one objective. It can make your visitor share your content to facebook, g+ and linkedin etc. without even moving out of page to login to respective platforms, it can also generate an inpage( on the page) but pop-up type facebook page of your company.

    • @juleswebb Thanks jules, list is really awesome.

    • @juleswebb – Very nice addition – your link. I will be trying out some new plug-ins on two client blogs soon and see which ones help me and them. :D

    • @moinshaikh
I really like Wibiya toolbar and want to use it although I had some problems with it scrolling with the page several months back when a viewer used different browsers.
I implemented the fix suggested by Wibiya but to no avail.
Have you experienced this and is the fix now correctly this?
      Thanks for your input.

    • @rebeccacohen i have not used it. Can you tell me which browser was causing problem?

    • @moinshaikh
I had issue about 6 months ago with Firefox browser enough so that the client asked me to remove it from her site.
      Thanks

    • @rebeccacohen i would check it by installing it on my site and will let you know. Can you tell me what site it was i mean simple site or wp blog?

    • @moinshaikh
Thanks, I had installed it on the client’s web site at http://www.georgiaviv.com
I may try again on one of my sites too when I have time and have others view to see if they have any issues.

    • I think we should add google Plus too.

Great list. I already have some of those.

    • Always love reading about favorite WP plugins! I’ve got a list of faves myself but I love discovering new and better plugins, for sure!

      Thanks for sharing :)

    • Very helpful discussion.  Thanks!   When I first got into wordpress,  I downloaded every seo app there was.   I figure more is better – big mistake.

    • @dwillden Good you found it Helpful. When it comes to SEO, only one thing is better : QUALITY and not QUANTITY!!!

    • @moinshaikh

I think I might add Sexy Bookmarks to my blogger. The Social Media Widget looks good, but wouldn’t look right on my theme.  I did install the All in one SEO plugin and it works great.

      Thanks for posting these.

    • A note to wp users: The Wibiya plugin for wp didn’t work for me. Only a snippet of the wibiya .js was being inserted in the page and looked something like this: <script>powered by wibiya</noscript>. It was being inserted in the middle of the code for the wp admin bar. In my case, this might have been caused by the fact I’m using an ancient theme. I’m using the latest version of wp, however. I tried reinstalling the plugin several times without success.

If any of you have encountered similar problems, here’s how I fixed it: I manually inserted the code in the php files.

On a side note, the wibiya bar installed fine on blogspot.

    • Does anyone have any real-life examples of how they’re using Hello Bar? Thanks!

    • Hi Lucy,

Here is what may help you! Take a look to my charity hospital’s blog:http://blog.alameenhospital.com/ Note that blue hello bar at top side that says “Join us in our humble…..” The white button “Join our Mission, NOW! has a call to action.

    • Great list! Thanks for starting this discussion @MoinShaikh. I’ll be checking out WP Touch, The Slide and Social Metrics.

I need a plug-in like The Slide for a client’s website. A couple others I’m looking at are: Internal Link Builder, Related Posts for WordPress and Contextual Related Posts. Which one(s) would be best to consider?

Also, anyone have a preference on using Comment Luv vs DISQUS?

      Thanks for your help!

    • Thanks @MoinShaikh! Now I just need to figure out how to get the plug-in to work!

    • Nevermind, @MoinShaikh! I guess it just takes a little while to activate because it’s live now!

    • New to the site and blogging so finding a thread like this by @MoinShaikh is really helpfull – just installed social metrics and see i have a lot of work to do!
