Take a look at the source code for this site. . and ask yourself, is Social Media Examiner going overboard on the meta keywords tag?
Is that good practice, or do they know something I don’t?

@phildunn Hi Phil. Meta Keywords do not count towards SEO or rankings anymore. Sometimes WordPress will use the post tags as the meta keywords (which is what happens on SME.com) unless meta keywords are specified in the meta keywords field of the All in One or other SEO plugin. So they’re not really harmful unless you’re going overboard. Post tags can be helpful for organizing and referring to content on a specific topic – SME does refer back to specific tags throughout posts to help readers find posts on popular topics. Back in the day when meta keywords were a ranking factor, it was suggested to not go over 256 characters, and from the few posts I just spot checked on SME.com, they were not over that.

Hey Phil – It’s been a while. How are you?
I think Kristi indeed explained it well. We use meta tags and hot link them at the end of an article for discovery purposes. We also often link to them as a summary or reference for relevant topics.

@phildunn if you check meta tags of home page , you’ll find there is no overboarding. And as far as your question is concerned, as @kristi-hines mentioned that’s all for users like you and me to let us find our relative post easily! So i don’t think #sme is overboarding with meta keywords.
