site launched today, but Facebook problem. please help! (6 posts)

  • hi, we launched our wordpress site today that we’ve been working on for a year.  there is a Facebook recommend button on the very top of the site, i think its not in wordpress actually but somehow with the hosting servers or something. Anyway. the recommend button links to the url .com/log-in.php so everyone on Facebook only sees the log in screen. I can’t found anywhere how to change the URL. we had a plug in up for a year that forced it to the log in screen, so either that has something to do with it or when it was set up, the guy put that there so no one accidentally saw the site before launch.  can someone please help! thanks!

  •  @jonnymacintosh  Could you provide the link to your website? I work with WordPress websites and hopefully can help you figure it out.

  • I visited your website and clicked on the Facebook icon. This is the page it led me to:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Our-Burning-Hearts/201968573230027

I think the reason you may have seen the login page is because only users who are logged in can see your fan page. This may be a setting that needs to be changed on your fan page and not WordPress. I tried to access my company’s FB page while logged out and I was still able to see the whole page as normal. I tried looking on FB’s help but I cannot find anything about privacy for Fan Pages (because I know that for personal pages you can control what friends/non friends can see). Hopefully someone else know more about this topic.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

  • Just saw this here, @jonnymacintosh – yes, if you have any restrictions on your Facebook Page such as Age or Country, no one will be able to see your Page until they log in to Facebook so that Facebook can verify that they are from the right country or are the right age.

It’s frustrating because you may want to limit your Likes by those factors but it messes with the URLs and Like Boxes when coming in from outside sites.  So it’s best to lift any restrictions from your Manage Permissions area.

Hope that makes sense and let me know if you have any questions!

  • @jonnymacintosh Were you’re problem solved already? I visited your website and clicked the Facebook Icon while logged in and on logged out mode and both lead to your Facebook page. I just have a hunch since I can’t see your codes, have you tried changing the icon link to  https://www.facebook.com/OurBurningHearts because right now your link is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Our-Burning-Hearts/201968573230027

Let me know if that helps.

    Rigie
