Silly Thought for Fellow Sigma Mu Epsilon Club Members – That means YOU (8 posts)

  • Silly Thought for Fellow Sigma Mu Epsilon Club Members – That means YOU!

To think only one thought is boring to me. For every ONE, generates so many other associated good ones.

In the case of Social Media Examiner, fast becoming THE gathering place for all SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS on using social media in their internet marketing strategies, I like the fact that SME stands for BOTH Social Media Examiner and “subject matter experts.” Cool! And fitting!

I also take great joy in the high level of comraderie (need spelling help on that one, lol) genuine helpfulness, and eagerness to learn here in the clubs. There are NO stupid questions here! Only great sparks of enlightenment! Also, so cool.

Reminds me of one of my high school panhellenic sorority meetings… pure community training grounds for young leaders… where the world was always ahead of us for the asking, learning, contributing, producing, sharing, and taking… loved those days and the life lessons it taught me.

Back then, my sorority was called Sigma Mu Beta. Here in our SIGS (special interest groups), we now have our own panhellenic Sigma Mu Epsilon of sorts. Also cool, lol.

Sooooooo, fellow SMErs, had any brainstorms or barnraisings since you’ve been here? What interesting ideas or collaborations have popped up in YOUR brain/s since joining SME?

Just my thoughts… twirling around, as usual, lol…

  • I like SME (aka Sigma Mu Epsilon :) because unlike on usual forums, you can ask questions and receive answers back on the forums from people who don’t seem so much like total strangers. You get the feeling like participants aren’t going to steer you wrong or make fun of you for your lack of knowledge. That’s priceless when you are desperately seeking answers.

  • Kathy, you are so right. Never once have I witnessed anyone being made fun of here. I have witnessed some reeeeeeeeeeally vigorous, heated dialogue on one or two occasions over the whole last year, but only in the context of pursuing and exploring information… never in a finger-pointing manner. The kind of robust discussion you get in a Master’s class of experts where the young, middle-aged, and very old gather to pick each others’ brains about a subject, not to pick on each other. I love that kind of intellectual freedom and I feel that daily here.

Not to say that this is a stuffy place full of pseudo-intellectuals… but rather a SAFE place to learn and share and grow without fear of feeling stupid for knowing too little or fear of being lambasted if you simply know too much, lol!

  • @atlantarobin I like Subject Matter Experts! :)

I haven’t really witnessed any making fun of in the forums either which is nice. I’ve gone into some where they are just brutal and I usually leave those pretty quickly.

  • @atlantarobin And really no one is stupid. Everyone is just at different levels – even experts started out just trying to learn the basics at one point or the other. :)

  • So do you think the difference here has something to do with the fact that most of us are either professional communicators or own a business and need to become professional communicators in order to compete and grow in the marketplace?

Why do YOU think the culture here in SME’s Clubs has developed into this highly collaborative, sharing, supportive, safe place? What’s so different here to you?

  • I think the appearance of the site contributes a lot to attitude. Certainly the ‘vibes’ of the posters is high, they are committed to sharing…… a very noble purpose. The site is well managed, the marketing is well done. Most of what I am reading in here from day to day is still a bit beyond my ability,  to me as a newbie, this place is like a university course. The management of the site is to be given a lot of credit as the articles published are of great quality.

    Super Place this is.!!

  • I hear you, Dave. I love the vibes here, too. :)
