Rolling out a new blog, MVP (Lean Start UP) (9 posts)

  • Confused on if i should blog or not, i know i have to, but curious about when the real blogging about our product or process should begin?

The product is in MVP (minimum viable product) mode and I have attracted paying clients. It is highly scalable software solution.  Does anyone have information regarding blogging an MVP product in this particular growth phase? Should it even be done?

Ask questions to pick my brain, its a serious question.

  • @theodoresturos Theodore, blogging is especially important for your startup. However, keep your blogging about product and processes to a minimum no one wants to hear marketing talk that’s not the point of blogging.
Instead focus on identifying your customers pain spots, what problems are they facing and how you can help solve those problems. Listening to what your target customers are talking about, where there talking, and who are the influencers. Then you will be better equipped to start blogging.

  •  @ptwylie  Paul, thank you so much for responding. Bloogging is def not my expertise but I know the pain points to leverage.  I like what you wrote and I agree. Cheers.

  • @theodoresturos Good luck with your product launch! Happy blogging!!! :)

  • Agree completely.  Blogging can be an extremely effective way to get the word out but you have to be careful to not look like you are selling or pushing a product or service.  Instead, as suggested, identify your potential clients pain points and figure out what problem they need you to solve.

Thanks, Paul, for some great advice!

  • Thank You,

Before you begin, I would definitely recommend that you read David Meerman Scott’s book: The New Rules of Marketing and PR (The third edition). It’ll answer a lot of your questions, and get you on the right path to do what @ptwylie wisely told you – to identify your customers’ problems, and focus your blogging on providing them with a solution.

  • Okie dokie, going to get it right now. Thanks @melissaanges

  • @theodoresturos I also recommend you check out Corporate Blogging for Dummies, written by a friend of mine, Douglas Karr.

To answer your original question, yes you should blog. There is no reason not to. As @ptwylie suggested, write about the pain points your customers are having.

    • Answer questions you’ve had to answer for your paying clients over and over, because other people are asking those same questions.
    • Identify industry trends and problems and offer solutions, whether your product solves those problems or not.
    • Talk about what clients should look for when they are looking for a product/service like yours (5 Things You Need In Your Next Apple Polisher; 5 Things to Avoid In Your Next Apple Polisher). Just make sure your product or service HAS the 5 things they need, and does not have the 5 things they should avoid.
