Removing Availability to Comment on Pages… (8 posts)

  • I have a blog that I have created in Wordpress. The comments field shows up on my pages as well as the posts. I want to make everything related to comments to not even show up on my pages. I have looked everywhere for a step-by-by on how to do that and have run up against a brick wall. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

  • On each page’s edit page, scroll down ’til you see “discussion” and unselect “Allow Comments” – you can pick and choose which pages you want to allow comments that way… i.e. we do a page for testimonials where it’s pretty much ALL comments so clients can leave testimonials… http://writerswin.com/testimonials/
    Good luck!

  • Hey Julie, not sure if you were able to find your solution, but I use a Thesis theme and I have to uncheck a box that’s located in my “design options” (located within my Wordpress dashboard) in order to remove the comment box from my pages.

I also know that’s the case in several other themes as well. Not sure which Wordpress theme you’re working with.

  • Thanks, Glen. I am currently using a free theme. (Not remembering the name right now.) I have seriously considered getting either a Thesis or Genesis Theme. Which Thesis theme are you using? Have you been pleased with Thesis? I am sitting on the fence between Thesis and Genesis.

Shari, Thank you for the input. I thought I did that, but I will have to check it out this evening.

    Thank you!

  • Hi Julie,
I have the older Thesis theme and love it. They have a new Theme 2.0.3 which has a new drag and drop interface.

Suppose to be super easy to create a unique site without coding. I haven’t tried it, and I don’t know anyone at this time who has, but it looks interesting.

  • @julienaumer – I recommend Genesis in general.  What are you looking for in a theme?

  • Hi Elizabeth,

I am a niche blogger, so I am looking for a theme that would allow me to easily add an opt-in box, affiliate advertisements on the right-hand side, but would also have a simple layout where I could visually highlight the main categories of the niche.

What do you like about Genesis? And on the flip side what are the annoyances with it?

    I really appreciate you input.

    Julie

  • To the original question about comments, If you leave the standard comments from Wordpress, you will get spammed. Basically junk posts in a very weak attempt at low budget backlinks.

Add the Disqus plugin and join Disqus. Then real people that want to engage will be joining in the conversation.

Not everyone will agree with this as it does add a layer of resistance to conversation. If you don’t do something though, you will end up with thousands of spam messages to pour through trying to find valid ones to approve. Waste of time.
