• Has anyone created Podcasts of their blog posts? Was it easy/hard? Where did you upload them to and what was the outcome of their success. I was considering doing this for my company’s blog I just wasn’t sure where to start. Any help would be great!

  • Hi Matthew,

I’ve participated in one with a Meetup networking group that I belong to locally. If attached the latest edition for you to see. As I understand from the Robert Lavigne, our moderator (it’s also his Blog), it is not difficult to upload to the site.

Podcasts are in my SM strategy for TDG in 2012. Pulling all the pieces together. Look forward to others thoughts.

Other good examples that I’ve experienced can be found at the Harvard Business Review.

    Best wishes with your efforts.

  • Do you create any podcasts out of your typed out blogs, so that people can both read them as well as download them to listen to them?

  • A few of my goals for this year are to move my blog to WP, incorporate videos and podcasts into my blog content, and repurpose some of my older posts into podcasts. So, I haven’t done them yet and can’t be of much help at this point.

However, when I’m ready I’m going to reference this article by Sydni Craig-Hart, Smart Simple Marketing Coach who does weekly podcasts. Here is the link: http://smartsimplemarketing.com/a-super-simple-guide-to-podcasting/

  • @karenataylor Wow that article was REALLY helpful! Does anyone else currently use podcasts for their blog posts? And if so how?

  • @karenataylor

Great Resource Karen – thanks for sharing.

    Gordon

  • @matthewoneill My association has done podcasting in the past but I’m just learning, though luckily I was left with some instructions. I’ll have to check out @karenataylor ‘s link over the weekend. Interestingly enough, we do not have a blog at this time but will be adding one towards the middle of the year (after our annual conference).

I leave you with a post from the MarketingProfs on blogging: http://www.mpdailyfix.com/marketing-smarts-podcast-how-useful-is-your-marketing/

  • @matthewoneill good topic. I am just beginning, but this is on my “future plans” list

  • @joanmujschampfagnani Me too. I’ve toyed with the idea of a creative podcast. I guess I’ve wanted to add images and vids so much, though. I’m wondering if a scheme incorporating the podcast and a video stream might be coordinated. Hmn?

  • @Durk Barton I think what you want to do is called Vodcasting ….http://www.freemarketingzone.com/rss-technology/vodcasting-explained.html .

While I haven’t created podcasts of blog posts, at one point I did add a plugin to a wordpress blog so people could listen to the post.

And when I actively did podcasts, I’d make the podcast a blog entry either by using a widget or linking to the home site of the podcast (I used Talkshoe).

  • <a href="mailto:_@marlenegavens“>@marlenegavens That sounds great, I have pieced together a large body of work and wouldn’t mind releasing some of it onto the net as a introductory presentation. I’m thinking Powerpoint or possibly flash. I will need a Flash writer program on the cheap, however. lol :)

  • For those of you who are interesting in creating a podcast and would want help with making it as successful as possible please check out http://www.pagatim.com. Last year we were named “Best in Class” for audio branding and help both individuals and companies develop an effective content strategy plus produce, host and promote your podcasts. Email me at cyndi@pagatim.com if interested in hearing about some of our case studies.

  • @cyndijohnson No offence, but I think that if you’re gonna plug your company, you should at least offer a free tip that relates to the thread. Just sayin’.

  • @pattypainter Good advice. I didn’t mean to make a shameless plug for PAGATIM. There are just not that many companies that specialize in audio branding so I am trying to get the word out. One of main tips we tell our clients is to think of podcasting as story telling. Real stories combined with interesting facts are what will keep people listening.

  • @cyndijohnson Thanks for the reply, Cyndi. I can totally empathize with you about trying to get the word out about your company — I’m in a similar position with my current project. Figuring out the when, wheres, and hows of pitching etiquette can be a challenge.

I’m curious about audio branding. How is it different from other forms of branding? I’ve always thought that a successful podcast requires two things: 1) Great Content (the storytelling you mention); and 2) personality (the charisma/ expressiveness of the ‘storyteller[s]‘).

Am I missing something from the podcasting mix?

  • PAGATIM is focusing on just one aspect of audio branding – helping people and companies tell their story in a way that will educate and inspire their customers so they become brand evangilists. There are also many other aspects to audio or sound branding that we don’t handle like creating logo sounds. To read a more detailed definition go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_branding

Charisma and great content are certainly the main ingredients of a successful podcast but they don’t come naturally to most people. As such, we strategize with clients on the focus of the show, train hosts and guests, propose and research topics, select music, create the logo, edit and of course ensure quality of the audio. For a weekly show this can add up to many hours of work just to make one single 30 minute podcast. After the show is finished we spend even more time distributing and promoting the show to all the major digital download platforms and social media channels.

    Thanks so much for asking!

  • I think pod-casting can send allot of traffic your way this is one strategy I intend to learn about and implement soon. I am learning allot from James Schramko regarding podcasting http://www.internetmarketingspeed.com/category/podcast/
