Page Rank Help (6 posts)

Topic tags: page rank
  • OK so I have no idea what page rank really gives me and after reading mixed posts I am not worried more than puzzled. My blog ( The Real Supermum Blog)  has a page rank of 2 whereas most of the other blogs in my niche have a 5 rating, what am I doing wrong?

I do accept a lot of guest posts, would links being given to others devalue my blog?

Does page rank matter and how can I get it higher if I need too? Anyone help x

  • @therealsupermum PageRank usually only matters to those who are trying to sell text link advertising on their blogs (which is a big no-no, btw). It’s based on the number of links you have to your blog and how high quality those links are (a link from CNN would be more beneficial than a link from a new site with no authority).

I usually suggest that bloggers focus on increasing their traffic and rankings for particular keywords in search over PageRank.  If you have a lot of traffic from social and search, then you’ll get advertisers from that as well.

  • Thanks Kristi what is  text link advertising?

  • Your page rank will grow over time as you get more links from other websites with high page rank.  It’s just a number that Google uses (as part of a larger algorithm) to evaluate how important your page is.  Typically it takes years for web pages to get ranks that are high (5 and above).

I wouldn’t sweat your page rank.  What you need to do is find out what keywords will help you get the customers you need and get links from other websites with those keywords in the anchor text.  That will help your site rank higher for the keywords.  Over time as you get more links your site will perform better in Google searches and you’ll get more traffic.

  • @therealsupermum You have gotten some really smart advice here. It’s really easy, in my opinion, to get distracted by minor issues and lose sight of the goal. Your site is about your business, and building your relationship with your customers. Keep focused on that, on providing outstanding content and a superior customer experience with you, and everything else will fall into place.

    Good luck to you!

  • Take your time On building a really really quality site from your audiences perspective, add more content build your social signals and in time you will pick up page rank but for now its no biggie :)
