Our site’s built in blog function vs. a wordpress blog, looking for best SE (4 posts)

  • The org I work for will soon be starting a blog. Our web vendor included a blog function on our site. We’ve been reading about Wordpress, it’s great SEO possibilities and easy integration into Facebook. I believe I have two questions.

    1. Would the in-site blog or the wordpress blog be better for our site SEO?
    2. Is it easy to integrate any blog into a Facebook fan page?

I found a blog post that mentioned integrating a wordpress blog with your site, but after reading, it appeared it was only in matching up the visual aspects and not actually attaching it to the site.

  • @reginameeks Are you looking to create the entire website in WordPress?  You can, and if you do they will all be under the same theme and integrate seamlessly.  You can also install WordPress on the same domain but under a blog folder.  It will still be on the same website so you can get the SEO benefits to the root domain.  You will just need a designer to match a WordPress theme to your main site and get your programmer to match the navigation up.  Otherwise it will all flow smoothly.

  • Thanks @Kristi-Hines. Definitely not looking to make a new site through wordpress, but seems the second part of your answer might work. Looks like more discussion with my site programmer. thanks.

  • @reginameeks You’re welcome!  Biggest challenge going that route is just making the templates match, but I’ve seen people do a website in one platform and just have the blog in WordPress.  Once the themes match, it looks seamless from the visitor’s point of view.  :)
