Old Posts, New Blog..strike that, New ”Magazine” (9 posts)

  • Hello, blogging campers and @mike-stelzner,  I am relaunching a blog into a magazine (See, I’m listening!) that used to be a photo-opinon blog.   Some of the old posts I can and would like to use.  Is there a plug-in that simplifies that process?  I tried to re-post a MoonWalk anniversary post, yesterday, July 20th, but couldn’t do it.  Nor, could I access the photo collage I had originally posted in my media library.  When I imported the blog posts into the new one, all media was supposed to come with it, no?  Any thoughts?  Thanks! PS. I’ll fill out the survey you sent but I’ll give you a preview:  I thought of this course when I saw a quote by none other than Albert Einstein this morning??!!  He said this, “A person starts to live when he can live outside himself.”  Basically, I think that was my key “take-away” from this conference. I’m not kidding.  I split atoms just for fun btw.

  • @pbcsky Hi Pat. Usually the media does import with the posts, but I have seen some instances where it doesn’t do it correctly. As far as I know, there’s not a plugin that will simplify the process – I know when I’ve imported pieces to be reused elsewhere, I’ve had to manually go through to make sure they are still dispalying properly.

The other questions is whether your new site is using the same plugins / theme as the previous site – sometimes there are options included with plugins / themes that aren’t offered in the basic WordPress setup. Hence, if you’re missing that piece, you might be missing the component that you originally uploaded your media into, if that makes sense.

  • Thanks, @kristi-hines, one of the problems may be that my old site was a photoblogger template that allowed for larger than normal images.  But, having said that, they show up fine if I go to the post itself, I just can’t repost it or even add the image to a new post where I cut and pasted the copy.  I’ll keep trying.  Thanks.

  • @pbcsky I’ve always been able to just change the date of a post to republish it once it’s been imported into a new site – there must be a conflict somewhere in WordPress. That’s a tough one!

  • Maybe I’ve missed something, @kristi-hines.  Do you mean when you are in the editable post and the upper right to “status” and where it says “published” to put it into “draft” mode? And, then, click “update”. I’m confused but maybe there really is a simple way to do this!  How do you “republish” on your site?

  • Ok. @kristi-hines, I just DID it, yes I did.  (bugle blaring in background) It didn’t bring the comments with it (those were the days when I had lots of comments) but, for now, it is up there and it says July 21, 2012.  I made a note in it that it was an “older” post.  Thanks for giving me the inspiration to just keep on clicking things, pressing OK, and gettin’ it done!

  • @pbcsky No problem! Sometimes WordPress is just a trial and error kind of system.  :)

  • @kristi-hines that is an answer we can give to most WP issues.

  • @richardmclaughlin Very true!
