Monetizing a blog that already has many followers (3 posts)

  • Hi All, nice to see some familiar faces. It is a while since I have been here, but I am back with a question…. I am a web developer and I am fine with the mechanics of setting up a WP blog. I have a new client with a problem most of us would love to have. She has a weekly show on PBS, a mailing list of 150K with 45% opening rate and 25K Facebook followers. And businesses in her niche who want to advertize on her site. Sweet! But – you guessed it – not a single ad on the site. Now I am fine with the tech side of setting up Ads but I have no idea how to advise her on how much to charge or how to charge. Can you advise me where to start? Or who to turn to? Thanks!

  • @abigailgorton Ads on a website are usually based on traffic.  She could go with a package deal that tells advertisers that she would place their ad on her website and in her regular mailings.  The key is to create a page on her website that shows her current website traffic stats, social stats (like the Facebook fans), and email open rates if she wants to include it in the package.

As far as what to charge, your best bet would be to find a website in a similar niche that has a similar amount of traffic.  Then see what kind of advertising packages they offer and for how much.  Or you could browse http://buysellads.com/buy/allsites and find sites that fit the same criteria to see how much they charge.

  • @kristi-hines ! Thank you do much! That site is a great help to me. I could immediately see some comparison stats.
