making money with your blog? (11 posts)

  • Are you making money with your blog? If so, how? What blog program do you use? What is your ROI?

  • @deairby I make money through my blog with affiliate marketing for Ebooks & other products I use, my own Ebooks sales, and some advertisers. The bulk of my income comes from freelance writing, opportunities I might have never received without my blog, so I count that as indirect Blogging income. I also have a few sites on the side that generate a bit of income through Adsense.

  • @kristi-hines Congrats on your success! How long did it take for you to generate money?

  • @deairby It took two years to make a sizable side income, then one more year to quit my day job and start working for myself earning only online income.

  • @kristi-hines way to go!

Affiliate links are hard up here as Canada hasn’t really embraced that idea yet.

  • @kristi-hines please expound on affiliate marketing

  • @deairby Affiliate marketing is where you link to a product on your blog, and if someone clicks on that link & buys the product, you make a commission.

For example, I use Thesis and StudioPress themes regularly for my own sites, so I know they are good quality products for other bloggers using WordPress.  So I wrote a huge post comparing the two themes (http://kikolani.com/thesis-vs-genesis-comparing-premium-wordpress-themes.html).  The links to both themes and related products throughout the post are affiliate links.  I included a disclaimer under the first subheading to let visitors know they are affiliate links so they know I will earn a little income if they buy from those links.  That post has turned into a huge affiliate marketing revenue generator.

If you’re interested in affiliate marketing, I would suggest going with products you like and you use.  So when you buy a premium theme, eBook, or other product and you feel like it would be beneficial to your blog readers, take a look around the site and see if they have an affiliate program and sign up.  And of course, be sure to add a disclaimer to your blog and the post itself that you are using affiliate links that will earn you income so people are forewarned.  :)

  • … and @kristi-hines… Do you go with one of those affiliate hubs to manage your efforts?

  • @kristi-hines

I must confess, Miss Kristi, that every time I follow one of your links I get way too distracted by all the wonderful goodies that await. Almost forgot why I went there.

Oh, yes… how you include affiliate links and reveal your profit from the products linked should a reader click through one… Very well done.

I also like your policy of only recommending products you’ve used. This was a comprehensive, meaty comparative review of two products and I must say you’ve raised the product review genre to a truly engaging and worthy art form.

Thanks for this stellar example of how to do affiliate marketing online in a manner everyone could be proud supporting. If yall do open a separate “Club” here for Affiliate Marketing, I hope you’ll be sure to include a link to this same article there. Well done!

  • @barryfeldman The only thing I use to manage the products I affiliate with is a plugin called Ninja Affiliate. It keeps track of the links in Wordpress.

  • @atlantarobin Thanks Robin! :)
