long time blogger? what trends did you see? (5 posts)

  • If you have been blogging for more than a year and possibly more than five years, what trends have you seen? Did you have a point at which your blog “took off” or you “found your voice?” Did your readership gradually grow, roller-coaster grow, or shoot up? Have you morphed into a different blog than the one you started? What have you learned from your trends?Just looking to learn from the wise, thanks,Dea

  • @deairby I’ve been blogging for four years during which time I have…

    • Changed my blog’s direction completely.  Kikolani went from creative writing and photography to blogging and social media.
    • Seen readership grow gradually, then boom one day when listed as one of the top social media blogs of 2010 via Social Media Examiner.
    • Taken my focus off of my blog while writing on other sites and building a stronger personal brand in the process.

  • @deairby Hey Dea,

    A couple things…

I’ve found that having your own “voice”, being personable and/or having charisma, can make a huge difference in the amount of return visitors and becoming known in your industry. (Could be good or bad, it depends on your content)

Using analytics to determine content strategy is huge.  Everyone should be doing this.

There are tons of other strategies people can use in their blogs but I believe being authentic, writing in a way your audience understands (on their level) and sharing stories are some of the most potent.

  • Thanks for the responses. Nichole, how long have you been blogging?@iamconsulting @kristi-hines

  • @deairby about 3 1/2 years now
