  • I’m doing a little “social survey” about landing/sales page software and I would really appreciate your feedback.

Have you ever used Premise or OptimizePress?

What are your thoughts and opinions on them? and how do you think they stack up against each other?

  • @mutunga I haven’t tried Premise, but I did try to get into OptimizePress. The latter has a lot of different options that people like and make for great looking pages. At the time I looked into it, I wanted something a bit simpler and didn’t want to take the time to figure it all out. I think with a little more patience, I would have liked it. If Premise has less options and gets the job done, I might end up going with that when I need a landing page.

    Ok :-D

So correct me if I’m wrong, but what you’re saying is that OptimizePress had too many options? (I know how that can be a complete turn off, talk about mental overload lol)

  • @mutunga Yes. It’s great in the fact that you can customize yours to be unique (or as unique as possible) though. :)

  • @kristi-hines@mutunga

I have heard of Optimize Press but really create landing pages with just using HTML tables, images and text.  Basically just like you would be creating a post or page for you blog, but just setting this as a landing page.

In WordPress,  many themes have a no-sidebar or full-width option so that eliminates the sidebar and you can create a page with HTML where only your banner shows.   If you have a hosted wordpress blog, then you can use iTheme Builder and create many, many layouts for your blog for your pages and landing pages alike. Then you set the “landing” page as the “front page” of your blog.

In Blogger there is code that you can use to make the “pages” have no sidebars, but there is no “front page” setting so you have to purchase a domain name and have it link to your “landing page” specifically.

In Typepad, if you want your landing page do have a different look than your main blog, then you have to create a second blog with a one page layout for example,  use CSS to set a larger width. Then create a page, set it as the front page for that 2nd blog. And then again, need to use a new domain name to map to that new landing page (2nd blog).  If you try remapping your main domain name, then the links get broken in your main blog.

So in regards to setting up landing pages….WordPress has it the best.

Very helpful and informative stuff, Heather. So what you’re saying is that if you have the time, these are the most low cost ways to get around having to buy another program, template or plugin?

Or is it better to just use paid plugins etc that specialize in landing pages?

For free, what would you choose? And for low cost, what would you choose?

  • @atlantarobin
Hi Robin!I think it depends on a few things…- cost- customization- knowledge or comfort with HTML

For me, I can customize and build a landing page to my customer’s specific needs and using coordinating graphics with their blog, color scheme, etc.  So simply just do things in HTML.

However, many of my followers do use Optimize Press as you don’t need to know HTML to use it.  I haven’t tested it so I can’t say how customized you can make it, but I’m sure it’s a nice option.

Thanks for the info. Not an HTML expert, but not afraid of using and learning more. I was a tech writer and editor so had to learn and use all kinds of things, but it was a while back.

  • Here is a great link on this  http://www.whichmvt.com/ - lists a ton of tools, some for less money and other going for K’s+/month.  This page is from a company called “Conversion Rate Experts” – they have a very solid blog focused on this thread as well – if you want to learn more about this stuff sign up for their newsletter.

Another option if you know a little about HTML, which also happens to be free to use is Google Website Optimizer.

  • @blogsbyheather Good points Heather!  Landing page designs are very simplistic, so if you have the HTML coding skills, you can probably just do it on your own.  One valuable part of the two different landing page themes is the images though – I know I’m terrible at graphics, but both come with some nice graphics packages for the call to actions, shopping cart buttons, etc.

  • I have and use Premise, it comes with 1100+ graphics and copywriting extras. It has options to have “pay with a tweet” pages and other advanced customisations. I highly recommend it.

I also have Optimize Press but I have yet to do anything with it. To be honest the buying / download experience wasn’t smooth. Although I like the idea of what it represents, I am just seeing to many of them out there. I am not sure that I would be able to customise it to the point where it functioned but didn’t look like it’s straight from the box.

  • @atlantarobin If you would like to learn some HTML, this is a GREAT site I like to visit:http://www.w3schools.com/

then on the lieft click on Learn HTML.and to learn CSS cod, click on Learn CSS.

    I like it,Heather :D

  • I use Premise on a few of my sites and found it fairly easy to use. As with anything new, there are some learning curves. But with Premise, the hardest part is getting your copywriting right, not getting the page to look right.

  • @blogsbyheather

    Heather, thanks for the link!

  • @davidgadarian – That’s a very detailed list of resources, Thanks!

@saraharrow – I agree with you, OptimizePress is all over the place. While I think it’s a really good product, I tend to shy away from the widely popular options.

P.S. Isn’t Pay With A Tweet the coolest thing?! lol

@lindsayhunt – Premise does make life much easier! POW! :-)

  • Another popular choice is Unbounce. Even if you don’t use it read their blog. Has a lot of great tips on LP optimization.

Personally I like to design and create all of my landing pages myself.

  • @howwhowhen Awesome dude! Can you share some that you have done? Would love to check it out!

  • @thatsocialdude I’m actually going to be releasing them on my blog pretty soon in the next day or two. I’ll write a post to discuss the LP and then subscribers to my newsletter will be sent the download link so they can use it themselves. A bit of email bait if you will.

Check out my blog http://www.howwhowhen.com if you’re interested. BTW, what kind of landing pages are you interested, like what niche?

  • After a month and three weeks, my memory was leaking… lol… and dear Kristi once again saved the day by reminding me I had asked this question before. Thanks for redirecting back to this great thread about landing page software. It’s truly helpful. Lots of great links here that I forgot to bookmark.

Thanks Miss Kristi… again and again!
