I`ve written my post – now what do I do with it? (6 posts)

  • Hi everyone,

I`m really interested in getting your ideas on this one please!

You`ve written your article / post – now what do you do with it?

Do you immediately put the article on your blog as a post?
Do you submit the original article somewhere else – where?

How else do you produce more content from the original piece?

  • @nickmessenger I would put it on my site and then promote it to get traffic to it.

I would never put the original article somewhere else as Google doesn’t like duplicate content and you can end up hurting yourself in SEO.

If you want to get more content out of the original piece, write other versions of it and then you could submit the unique piece to article sites if you like.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a specific one to send you to because after the Panda update at Google I’m a little paranoid of being associated with a site that Google may deem poor.

  • @nickmessenger When I write content, it is always for my own blog or one of the sites I regularly contribute to.  After it’s published, I go into blog post promotion strategies – some great techniques are listed in this thread.  :)

  • @kristi-hines  and at everyone…
Is it true it’s a no-no in Google’s eyes to post your article elsewhere and then on your own site? I do it regularly. i.e. I offer Social Media Today an exclusive and then a couple of weeks later I put it on my blog or even another publisher’s blog. It never seems to create any problems. I simply want to offer it to as many readers as I can.
    Is this problematic?

  • @barryfeldman Google is not a fan of duplicate content, but the real issue is which piece will rank highest – the one on your site or another. That said, exposure on Social Media Today is well worth going for. i just wouldn’t write a post on my blog and then send the same one to 10 other article networks.

  • @nickmessenger

When you’re ready to post, you want to make sure you make it as SEO friendly as possible.  Here is a series of posts I wrote recapping what I learned from Rich Brooks :D http://www.blogsbyheather.com/series-how-to-be-found-on-the-web/

It involves the use of headings, bulleted lists, link strategies and of course keywords usage and more!
Also, you can then share that post on FB, Twitter to get more exposure as well.
    Best wishes :D
