  • Is building links through the following methods still working?

    1. Ezine Articles
    2. Squidoo Lens
    3. Hub pages
    4. Selected Directory Submissions
    5. Local Business Listings
    6. Related forum postings
    7. Press Release Submission
    8. Blog commenting

Not really.  Ezine articles did clean up their site to only contain original content so it’s not a bad place to post an article for links.  Press releases and local business listings (depending on the directory) still work to an extent.  The rest of them…there really isn’t any value.

The best way to build links now is guest posting on relevant blogs, link requests (but this really needs to be done with finesse and typically with some type of established relationship), social sharing and creating link worthy content.

  • There are some black hats that still swear by it and it does still work. But you have to be very aggressive, and be prepared to lose it all too.  Personally I never link build. I prefer to write good stuff that people want (the problem arises when we want to write stuff that interests us and not so much, others), so much so that they link to it by themselves with no persuasion from me.

But there is an issue.  If you are say an astronomer and write about astronomy – that is an easy subject to write about.  Same with WordPress which is my area of expertise.  But if you sell used car tyres it’s a lot harder.  If you can, pick something to blog about that people frequently ask questions about.

    1. Ezine Articles – I would focus on guest posting over articles on this network.
    2. Squidoo Lens & 3. HubPages – After guest posting, these networks are still pretty good IF your target audience is part of the community.
    4. Selected Directory Submissions – High quality directories are still good, but a lot of the lower quality ones are not as valuable.

    5. Local Business Listings – These are great for local search citations regardless of link value.

    6. Related forum postings – I like forums for traffic, assuming that you are using forums with your target audience in the community.

    7. Press Release Submission – If the press release network is quality and can actually get your news placed on good sites, it’s valuable.

    8. Blog commenting – I still like blog commenting for traffic, but not for link building.

  • @kristi-hines This is some very good information.  Thanks, this clears it up for me too!

  • Thank you so much for your help @iamconsulting @kristi-hines

    I really appreciate it.

  • I definitely found this helpful. Two of  my coaches are pushing the link building through frequent posting on my blogs.  The push is to get Google to notice me.

  • @rshahbaz the stuff that really works in link building requires a little more effort, buts its definitely worth it. Besides what is mentioned above by  @kristi-hines. I would like to ad a few key link building techniques:

    1.  Guest Blogging… this one is king, has credibility and gets you noticed the most.
    2. Resources pages, which could be pillar posts that have a lot of really good resources.
    3. Offering a great free eBook.
    4. Tutorials which are carefully written, easy to understand and follow.

    Hope this helps. :)

  • @geoffrey-gordon Thank you Geoffrey, It will definitely help. Have a good day.

  • @rshahbaz Hi Rana, I think that the most of them are not working anymore.

For me, the best way to build links is to make Guest Posts.

Also if you build good relationships with other bloggers, you will get backlinks as a side effect.

A special note goes to this:
Some blogs reward their readers for comments and links.
This means that their comments and trackbacks gives you dofollow links.

This doesn’t mean to spam these blogs.
This want to be an input to actively partecipate to these blog community if you find their contents valuable.

  • Thank you @maurodand for your help.

    I really appreciate it. :-)

  • Interesting question @rshahbaz and wonderful answers too! This has been very helpful for me!

  • @rshahbaz You are welcome Rana ;)

    @laugue Glad to help Laura!
