Is There A Rise In Self Publishing? (6 posts)

  • Does anyone think there is a rise in self publishing? If you think that there is, what do you feel the main contributing factors are?

  • @klg007  There seems to be a lot of interest in self publishing based on Search Engine rating requirements, I have no idea as to what statistics are available. I wonder where a person could access some valid numbers.

  • Thank God that publishing is now in the hands of the creators, not the hands of vanity rip-offs and publishing marketeers.

Self-publishing is what all writers have longed for. For decades we’ve had to grovel at the desks of publishers who whittle away at creativity for the sake of marketability (and MAYBE SOMETIMES quality). Then they make the author do a lot of the marketing themselves to get a small percentage of profit (if any). That filter is now gone.

It is now up to us writers to prove that we can produce quality content with integrity and discipline. I think we’re up to the challenge!

  • Another thought! Since Amazon and Barnes and Noble and perhaps Google are the new publishing engines, the supporting numbers are certainly known. It shouldn’t take much effort to find statistics.

  • There is definitely a rise in self publishing for three main reasons: 1) We feel we have something to say that we want to convey to others 2) We can say it because the resources are there to do so affordably and 3) Self publishing gives us a way to share our message without having to go through someone else, such as book publishers, who used to control the market.

Definitely agree, Kathy. I think what threw it into meteoric measures, however, was the realization of marketing opportunities with “free” self-published giveaway books, ebooks, audios, videos, etc. With all the PLR (private label rights) products out there showing how easy it is to edit PLR material in order to create an original self-published work, it’s too easy and too cheap NOT to self-publish a free giveaway publication to establish yourself as an expert.

Every business, author, expert, and entrepreneur (whether online or offline) should be self-publishing. Just makes sense.

    Robin
