Is HubSpot worth the money? (20 posts)

  • I’m in the process of retooling my website on a Wordpress platform but I can’t help but wonder about migrating it over to HubSpot. I’ve always enjoyed the educational material from HS but would love to hear from someone actual users of the product. If you have HubSpot, do you find it worth the money? Does it generate a satisfactory level of leads for you? Would you recommend it to others or do you see people being able to accomplish much of the same on Wordpress (for less)?

I’m not one of these people who expects the platform to do all the work for them and am certainly eager to use the tools available. I just would like to know I’m getting my $ worth. Opinions of those who have used it?

  • I have been a big fan of Hubspot for years and love their handouts and webinars.  They approached me a while back to ask if I would be a reseller for their products and services.  However, when they told me they only deal with clients who have advertising budgets of $5000+ per month, I was unable to comply.    Most of my clients budgets are well below that figure per month.

However, they certainly “know their stuff” and have lots of tools to streamline their products and services.  I don’t know anybody who has actually handed all their Inbound Marketing to Hubspot but for someone who can afford them, I would think they would be pleased with the results.

  • Hi Dan,

We’ve just signed up with Hubspot after doing months of research – the team has been great to work with at all levels.  I’d recommend them to anyone.  The materials are excellent and they’ve got the process down pat.

The opportunity to integrate the system with your CRM and other tools has made it real easy.

I’m confident that the investment is well worth it.

  • @danonbranding Hubspot can be a powerful tool, and the folks there are awesome. I used them for a few years, and know they have been improving their product.

My advice on whether it’s worth it is to make sure you have a written list of goals, then prioritize them. Next look at your marketing org and ensure you know who does what and how you “handoff” to sales.

Next, if all systems are still “go” set a specific training schedule and work sessions for the people who will use the system, and also those who will look at the analytics.

It gives you the most bang for the buck when you integrate all the features.

  • @danonbranding I was wondering the same thing. Thanks everyone for the comments on your experience. It’s often hard to evaluate these types of services. I’m using SEOMoz and enjoying them. Same deal where I spent a long time enjoying the educational materials and wondering if the tool was worthwhile.

  • I recently received an email that Hubspot has a new product for those with smaller budgets. I have not had the chance to review it.  I agree with @dcoville001 that the price tag was too high for my clients.

I recently set some of my sites up with Attracta which has a free start for SEO and am watching to see how that goes. I work with solopreneurs that have minimal if any advertising budgets.

But I agree the information from Hubspot is top notch!

  • Agree that the free information and guides Hubspot provides is great. While I haven’t signed up yet, they’re definitely at the top of my research list — just one way providing good free information can be used in marketing. You guys might also want to check out their most recent webinar info on mobile marketing — learned a lot — good stuff.

  • When I used the free 30 day trial I was impressed with Hubspot. Once my companies budget increases a little I will probably go with them.

  • I have not been able to interest clients in Hubspot’s fine services. Suggesting Hubspot with a monthly fee has actually cost me some business. The price is seen as money to me even though I see the offer as trying to hook them up with the best.

My experience is fairly short. I’m going to keep trying. They do create quality educational material. It’s probably a matter of finding the write clients.

  • I find Hubspot to be one of the most innovative companies out in the wild. I believe it was they who have coined the phrase “Inbound Marketing” which, is now the new SEO.

I may really like what they are doing  however, I have not used their products. I am though trying to put some time aside to write their Inbound Marketing Course.

    Has anyone wrote this exam?

  • @kerisilk I’m intrigued by Attracta. I checked out their website, and couldn’t easily find a pricing schedule, although I’m sure it’s there somewhere. How do they make money? I’m very interested in your results, for several smaller clients I’m working with.

I’ve also spoken with Hubspot, and think their products are great, but too expensive for small enterprises.

  • Does anyone who uses HS for clients have advice about whether or not to use their CMS ?… or if it’s easy to integrate their snippets within WordPress without screwing things up too much (goofing up the design, etc.).

  • @phildunn Hubspot has a webinar about using their WordPress plugin to integrate their tools into your WordPress site…

There’s also this review of Hubspot which includes some opinion about switching to their CMS…

  • Awesome – thanks Kristi. You are uber-club-leader!

  • Just filled out details for the free Attracta trail will let you know if it helps

    @lyndagoldman-copywriting

looks like they make money by selling add on services, I couldn’t see a pricing plan either but I expect that now they have my email they will send it to me

  • @spudty Thanks, Glyn. I heard good things about it from the SEO Copywriting Linkedin group, so I’ll try it too. Let me know how it works for you.

  • LOVE HS, but haven’t been able to use any of their services. I know many people are trending within their company towards “Inbound Marketing”, but don’t completely understand what that means. And those people who know the complete concept are trying to emulate what HS offers; mostly the concept of developing unique landing pages. Has anyone encountered this and/or has been successful at doing so?

Out of curiosity, what are everyone’s positions within their company? There are so many different titles for similar positions.

  • @Travis Lodolinski – Go to your library or Barnes & Noble and pick up a copy of ‘Inbound Marketing – Get Found Using Google, Social Media, and Blogs.’  The book was written by Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah the owners of Hubspot.  Both were graduate students at MIT when they met.  They gave credit to 42 individuals who inspired and helped them write this book.  Some of the contributors are: Seth Godin, David Meerman Scott, Chris Brogan, Brian Solis, and Darren Rowse.

My book is so marked up that one wonders if it is a classic collectible.  Check out Brian’s explanation of Hubspot’s mission and vision http://youtu.be/4R49OWIMvbY.  I recommend everyone subscribe to their You Tube Channel to view 250+ videos.

  • @mikemacey great links, thanks.

  • Thanks Jason.  I also recommend you check out the monthly service Alexa.com provides for $149.00 month or a one month report for $199; see snapshot.  Very nice looking website.  Is it WordPress?  Did you build the theme?
