Is feedburner dying? (4 posts)

  • They are killing their API in October which means I won’t be able to bring subscriber data into Web Control Room anymore I think which sux. But even worse, today I looked and all of my feeds are saying 0 subscribers and it seems others are having the same problem. Feedblitz looks like a good alternative but I’d rather not change if I can avoid it.

  • @thedannorris Looks like it will work to deliver your feed, but the analytics end is now gone – I’ve noticed the 0 count for several days now. The Feedburner status blog posted on the 21st saying they were working on it, but who knows.

This is what I hate about Google acquiring something. Feedburner used to be a standalone service, then Google acquired them, and now it seems like they are abandoning it. The Twitter account said farewell, the APIs are shutting down, etc.

Feedblitz seems like a great service – they have migration guides here: http://www.feedblitz.com/how-to-migrate-rss-feed-subscribers-from-feedburner/. For people like me who enjoyed having free email RSS delivery, it really sucks because for my number of subscribers, I’m looking at $13.95 a month. It’s not terrible per month, but it’s just another thing I would have to pay for. Bleh.

  • @thedannorris @kristi-hines Feedburner closing down not good. I did find a plugin for word press that can fit the bill for subscribers. Subscribe2.

I am not a big fan of paying a monthly cost, if its not worth it. With WordPress there are so many premium plugins that could replace feed-burner with a once off cost but long term benefits: Here are two examples:

    1. Tribulant Newsletter plugin check out the features they are pretty impressive.
    2. Codecayon also has a ton of options too.

  • @geoffrey-gordon @thedannorris Some think that because of the integration of Feedburner with Blogspot, AdSense, and Google Analytics that it might still live on. The thing that is getting shut down is the developer’s API which isn’t the same as the RSS delivery service itself. I’m keeping my fingers crossed – even if there aren’t stats, I’d still like to keep my free email subscription service.
