Integrating Website & Blog (9 posts)

  • I’m confused about integrating a website and blog that are hosted on 2 different platforms.

My website was created Joomla and is updated every other month. My blog was created in Wordpress and I post 3x per week. I have tabs (Home, About, Contact) that connects my blog to my website, but I’ve been told it will not maximize the SEO. Do I need to create a new website in Wordpress? http://marisashadrick.com

  • @marisa-shadrick When people refer to integrating your website and blog, they usually mean that both should be on the same domain. In your case, you would have  http://www.liteliving.net/ and  http://www.liteliving.net/blog/.

One thing you could do is add folder under  http://www.liteliving.net/ called blog and install WordPress in that folder.  Then import posts from your current blog to that one.

The SEO benefit of this would be if someone were reading a blog post and linked to it, that link would count towards the authority of your main domain.  Right now, if someone linked to your blog post, it would help boost http://marisashadrick.com/, but if you had your blog on http://www.liteliving.net/, it would help boost that instead.  I hope that helps!  :)

  • Thank you, Kristi. That does make sense.
I’m branding myself, freelance writer/speaker, and my strong arm is the blog so would you suggest I keep the blog URL with my name?

The website sounds like it needs to be in Wordpress. Perhaps there’s a way to build a Wordpress website around my blog? But, I still need to consolidate the URL to either MarisaShadrick or LiteLiving?
Sounds like I need a Wordpress expert. (Lite Living is the “ministry” name and I wanted to convey the theme of all my posts. Can I still do that? )
Ugh, so much money and time and I think I did it all wrong. Any suggestions how I can untangle this mess? Thanks for your help.

  • Hi Marisa, you did not do it wrong. There are just two ways, and integrating blog and website on one domain has some advantages.

You could do what Kristi says.
Or you could go full WordPress and add the content of your Joomla website and integrate it in the WordPress system on the domain that is most important to you.

You should be able to do this yourself, with export from Joomla and import in WordPress. It will take some time.

When you want to work at Liteliving.net just let WordPress stay there and import the content of Joomla into WordPress. That way you will keep the theme of the posts as well.

  • I need a bit of help with my website/blog site which is all in one.  The backend of the wordpress site says that I have no incoming links it says- ” This dashboard widget queries Google Blog Search so that when another blog links to your site it will show up here. It has found no incoming links… yet. It’s okay — there is no rush.” However when I had a SEO help they said they were doing links. I have a steady stream of 50 plus visitors each day but it does not seem to be building despite comments and lots of Facebook likes.  One post has over 600 likes.  Is there something wrong in the dashboard that I should be aware of? Here is a example of a post.  140. ARTnBED My Art on Duvet Covers :) blog 22.6.12 http://www.mariejonssonharrison.com.au/new/index.php/2012/06/140-artnbed/ How can I increase the traffic?  Any suggestions? Warm regards Marie

  • @mariejonsson-harrison I wouldn’t worry to much about what the dashboard says, it dosen’t always show up there, as long as the search engines can find the links that’s all that matters. Having said that I’ve done a quick check & you appear to have only 2 backlinks both of which are no follow, one is from a PR 5 which would be great if it was do follow.

  • @Erno…Thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it and it sounds like you hit a solution. I’m going to look into it. Have a wonderful week.

  • Thank you for your reply Lou and I am sorry I did not get back to you sooner, this message got into the spam.  So could you please give me some idea what to do about that, how to combat that problem and also how I check.  Being a novice at this (I reallyshould just be painting lol) I have not a clue of how to sort it out.Any advice you give would be appreciated.  Love Marie xxx  (I have over 2300 subscribers to my personal Facebook profile page and and some 3700 fans plus5000 friends, so I know people are interested but do I get the website links and traffic going?)

  • I hope you get your problems solved Marie and Marisa. Looks like you have both received some useful advice. Love the people in this club!
