How to know if your blog has been hacked? Use this trick (3 posts)

  • I’ve read an interesting thread in this forum about wp sites being hacked, and I’ve thought this could be helpful:

Sometimes is pretty obvious that your blog have been hacked, your visit your site and you can read the typical message “Hacked by…”

Of course this a headache, but it’s even worse when yor site has been hacked and you dont’t notice it …

    Come on! This is impossible…

Oh, no my friend,  this has happenned to me . Sophisticated hackers use sometimes a technique called “page cloaking”, this means that the blog that has being hacked serves a different page to real vistors (like you and me, we would see the “normal” page), an to spiders (like google, who would see the hacked version with outbound links to the pages the hacker wants to promote).

This is done on SEO purposes.

    The trick:

Go to Google and search for

    viagra, cialis, sexshop…. site:yourdomain.com

If any results are displayed, be careful!, maybe your site has been hacked!!

  • @albertmora Great tip! Another way is to just google your site and click on it. The hackers will set up your site to redirect somewhere else from search, but not when someone types the website in the search browser so that the site owner won’t be able to discover the hack as easily.

Also, sign up for Google Webmaster Tools – they will alert you (sometimes) if they discover malware on your site.

  • that is a pretty good one.
