From what I’ve read, Google puts more weight on links from multiple domains, not multiple links within a domain. So a site with 100 links from 50 domains should have more powerful link juice than a site with 100 links from 10 domains.
The exception to that would be if the site with links from 50 domains were from crappy domains (article networks, low-value directories, etc.), but the site with links from 10 domains were from authority sites (CNN, Apple, etc.). That’s why it’s almost impossible to tell the exact number of links you’d really need to get the PR boost as Google weights them differently.
