How to Create Connections? (5 posts)

  • As a new member to the Social Media Marketing World, I was wondering what would be the best way to create connections within the community.  I want to recruit guest writers for my blog, Omnibeat.com/surge, and also be able to write for other blogs.  I want to be able to establish a solid contact and relationship with prominent and rising writers, bloggers, and experts.

How should I go about this?  What is the proper way?

  • @nelsonta Start by…

    • Subscribing to blogs in your industry.
    • Commenting on them regualrly.
    • Following the blog / blog owner on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.
    • Tweet the blog posts including the Twitter handle of the blog / blog owner.
    • Share the blog posts on Facebook and tag the blog / blog owner’s page / profile.
    • Share the blog posts on Google+ and tag the blog owner’s profile.
Do this for a week or two, getting to know the blog and blog owner.  Then make your requests.  :)

  •  Thank you @kristi-hines !

This sounds like great information.  Would you know how willing writers will be to donate their time and writing? Would it be better to target lesser known bloggers since they may not be as flooded with requests as leading experts?

Also, I am sorry for bombarding you with questions.  It must be hectic being the club leader!

  • @kristi-hines This is great information! Thanks for your tips :)

  • @nelsonta You definitely have to give people a reason to write for your site.  Some will do it just for the additional exposure or the link to their website.  Others would want some good incentive, like the amount of traffic your website receives or the audience you have on social media.  Asking smaller bloggers to start with would be a good way to go.
