How often do you post in your blog? (8 posts)

  • Daily, weekly, monthly?

How many words, as an average, does your post have?

  • Hi Albert   @albertmora

Because I have multiple blogs and manage blogs for clients this is a tough question to answer.

At the Prairieland Food blog I make one entry per month for the food package and try to write one or two articles or post a couple of recipes per month.  This does not always happen. This past summer we had a crisis at our house (2 hospital stays and subsequent inpatient rehab – starting in June and took until this month to get all that completed) and so I had to catch up this month with the offered packages and articles for that particular blog.

At my own blogs I’ve fallen behind but don’t worry about that much – see, we have websites with good search engine position so the blogs are there to enhance our online presence so are not necessarily crucial to our business efforts online.

Articles for my own blogs run from 300 to 1,000 words – when they run up to 650 – 1000 I break them down into segments or page views.

Here’s the thing – a nice 200-400 word article can really be a great enhancement when it is based on a client or customer recommendation.  Those “stories” really can boost a potential clients confidence.  Even when simply giving advice a short article can be found and lead to your flagship website – so can be a traffic booster too.

I’m not sure what you are looking for but this — just off the top of my head.

  • I manage interior design blog and publish articles there like 5-6 times a week. Since the main topics are about ideas I post as more visual information as I can and limit words to 100-150.

I also have social media marketing blog, and my posts there often includes some self-built graphs, harder to find visual information (examples of actions I write an article about) and almost always 500-800 words. So I try to keep up with only two posts per week there.

  • I try to share a new blog post twice a week on Monday morning and Thursday morning. Typically my posts run from 500 to 1,000 words. I try to keep them to less than 600 words though.

I don’t know about you, but even though I am a communicator by trade, writing blog posts is hard work! I’m amazed by people who can do it daily.

My blog writing efforts remind me of two quotes which I find very true:

“Writing is easy: All you do is sit staring at a blank sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead.” ~ Gene Fowler

“I hate writing, I love having written.” ~ Dorothy Parker

  • Our blogger, Holly Petherbridge, uses 500-600 words on each of her posts.

  • According to the “what it takes to succeed in blogging barometer” Albert, not enough. Once every two weeks was my usual turn out and that’s way below the recommended level. When working on other assignments, one can hardly find the time. But its best to make at least two submissions of really high quality content weekly.

  • I post daily. 300 to 1000 words. Occasionally, I add a spur of the moment 200-word post if something comes up. I’ve maintained this for a year and find that the discipline keeps the ideas coming. It was harder when I was just posting a couple of time a week.

The longer posts get the most readers long-term. The shorter posts do better on the post date.

  • Also I put a lot of time into finding images that communicate — often retouching and editing to reinforce the message. I spend at least an hour a day posting.
