How do YOU subscribe to blogs? (12 posts)

  • Hi All,
I’m assuming as fellow bloggers, that the majority of you also read lots of articles online.

I have tried a number of methods when it comes to subscribe to a website from getting their emails, using google reader and using websites like AllTop.

However I still haven’t found a way to subscribe that seems neat and doesn’t fill up my inbox.

How do you follow websites? Do you use any particular tools? Would you recommend them?

    Thanks!
    Sam

  • I’ve always liked how “My Yahoo” presents RSS feeds.

  • Typically I use Twitter and create lists. This way when I’m in the mood to read a certain topic, I can just pull up a list and scan my feed for any blog posts that look interesting.

  • @samscholfield I;m in the same boat as you – I want to subscribe to so many blogs that look interesting, but then I get overwhelmed trying to keep up with them! @juleswebb, the “My Yahoo” looks interesting – I might have to give it a try.

  • The ones I may glance at I put in RSS feed and check that folder once a week or so – the ones I know I’m going to get something out of (like SME!) I subscribe to by email – I need the reminder lest I get too busy to check RSS :)

  • Thank you all for your comments and suggestions! @juleswebb I hadn’t seen Yahoos solution before, that looks quite good.

@sharijstauch Where do you store your RSS feed?

    Thank you all again!

  • @samscholfield I just use Google Reader for a couple of reasons…

It’s great to organize blogs you like to comment upon (http://kikolani.com/how-i-organize-google-reader-for-blog-commenting.html).

And it’s good to use to help get blog topic ideas (http://blog.kissmetrics.com/topic-generation-machine/).

    :)

  • @sharijstauch   I use Feedler

  • I just click the RSS button thru Firefox and I’ve put an RSS folder  onto my bookmarks so it’s all in the same place… Tried doing thru my Apple Mail but found (for no known reason) that I was never bothering to look from there — guess my email dashboard is for what I need/have to do and my bookmarks allow me where I WANT to go, lol…

  • @kristi-hines Brillant!!! Thank you for sharing..

  • I subscribe to blogs using Google Reader and I browse through the feeds using Feedly since it offers a better interface for reading. Apart from that, I also browse through Zite every morning just to get a feel of what’s going on in the industry that I am interested in without subscribing to every news outlet or blog.

  • I use google reader to subscribe because that usually works with most rss apps available.

I like my feeds to sync between my gadgets so I can browse anytime, anywhere.

    Liza
