How do you put a link in the bio? (12 posts)

Topic tags: wordpress bio.
  • I have a Wordpress blog on my domain.

In the Users – Your Profile – About Yourself.

I highlighted some text in the Biographical Info section to create a link. When I clicked on the + New then Link the highlight disappeared from the text and would not link.
Does anyone have any ideas about the best way to do this.
Thanks for any help you can give.

  • I’m not sure I have you exactly, but when you highlight a piece of text to make it a link, it won’t stay highlighted. I don’t think I have you right. Highlight the text that you want to make into a link, then look at the icons at the top of the writing box, and you’ll see a chain link icon. Click that and enter the full url. Hope that helps.Margie

  • Hi Margie  @margiemintz

Thanks for helping. I don’t have any icons or writing box at the top of the page. All I have is a black bar right across the top of the page with the following in it.

My Blog Name, + New, Howdy David Easter.

    There is nothing else.

  • Hi David,I just experimented on my own blog and clicked the + to add a link, and I did and don’t know where it comes up. I added a link to my profile, but it didn’t come out as a link. As far as I can tell, the only link you get is the space where you can add a link to your website (and some other social media).

I wish I could help, but I think you’re going to have to find someone who knows more about wordpress that I do. Maybe look up, Christina Hills Or Blogging with Amy.

I’d love to know how this works out.good luck,Margie

  • Margie  @margiemintz

Thanks for trying to help. Its a bit of a mystery but I know it can be done because I have seen it in lots of bios.

  • I would also be interested to know how this works

  • Helena  @helenazwarts

You should post the same question as me so it will get more exposure. If you have any luck let me know.

I have tried to Google the question in various formats but I cannot find anyone who knows how to do it. It would probable make a good post in Social Media Examiner Magazine.

    Regards – David

  • Must be someone who knows how to do this.

  • @david-easter  @helenazwarts You have to use HTML coding in the Users > Your Profile > About Yourself Biographical Info section as shown in the image. :)

  • @kristi-hines

Thanks Kristi! Off to do that!

  • @kristi-hines Thanks for that, I just found a post on Social Media Examiner about how to insert the rel=”author” link.

I but the code in but the link did not activate, see here http://www.cannonelectrical.com/blog/electric-space-heaters/#comments

Have you any ideas what the problem could be.

    Thanks

  • @david-easter It doesn’t always work. You might want to look at the page on Google Authorship (https://plus.google.com/authorship) and try suggestions from this tool (http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cannonelectrical.com%2Fblog%2Felectric-space-heaters%2F&html=) that helps you see if it is working or not.
